Larita cleared her throat and rolled her eyes at Leon's comment. "Whatever. It was just a bug." She shivered and brushed her hands down her arms just in case something had gotten on her after all. Then she hugged her arms to her sides, trying to take up as little room as possible so that she wouldn't have to come into contact with the walls.

In her already nervous state, the illumination of Solasta's monsterous features startled the girl more than they had in some time now. She stiffened and gulped, wide eyes looking up into her roommate's face. When Solasta turned forward, Larita exhaled.

"Real funny, Sol," she said in response to Solasta's statement about eating her first. Still, she looked over her shoulder as if a cave in would come at any second.

After that, the half-siren girl kept quieter than usual, watching the lights from her comrades' flames dancing across the stone walls and listening intently for Leon's response.

They really were the most amusing people.
Shae smirked at Solastas comment. He wondered, if that actually happened if the purple girl would actually eat Larita. The funny part was that he didn't entirely doubt it.

"... but she's so thin" Shae mused back as though Larita herself hadn't said anything at all. "There's hardly any meat on her.." It wasn't that Shae actually cared or wanted to pick any particular side or anything like that- he didn't even need food to survive. He just wanted to stir things up.

It wasn't hard to do so either. They were so touchy, so moody all the time. All he had to do was toss one little remark and it was like throwing bread scraps to hungry seagulls, it didn't take long to start them squabbling.
The mental image made his grin widen.
Really the most amusing people.

Leon looked over his shoulder as the others were discussing who would be eaten first in the even to of a cave-in. Leon didn't particularly approve of cannibalism. From his position at the front, he could see all the others faces illuminated by different colored lights with some amount of clarity. Everyone, that is, except for the kid lagging behind way in the back.

Leon shrugged. "Nah, I'd vote that deer kid. Venison."

Leon's eyebrows creased in an expression of anger as the distortion shoved him. It was enough, at the moment, to make him blow a gasket. He was about to turn on Solasta, however something caught his foot, nearly tripping him up, but he managed to catch himself.

Leon gave Solasta a dirty look before holding his low to see what he'd just tripped over. "Fishline," he announced to the others, thought the line had broken when he'd through it. Leon met Valentin's eyes momentarily as he rose again. Why did the kid look so miserable right now? Why didn't he want them to go through with this?

Leon turned to continue through the cave, letting Solasta off easy for her offense. As he continued, he summoned more energy to his right hand, using his left to mold it more tightly into a longer, rod-shaped object. He finished the piece off with some looser energy at the tip. With this, he could keep an eye out further ahead of him, and watch the ground for anymore fishline that may have been stretched across it.

Post  Valentin Mon Apr 30, 2012 4:55 pm

The limited air in the tunnels was beginning to feel stifling to Valentin and he mentally recoiled from the warmth of Solasta's flame some ways in front of him that ate at the oxygen as well as the chill from the rocks. He hadn't been paying particular attention to the conversation, but Leon's comments weren't lost on him and both ears flicked forwards before falling back in nervous disapproval. If they decided to eat him, he definitely wouldn't be able to stop them. But it was perhaps more concerning that this was probably the least of his concerns at the moment. There could be a lot more at stake.

Then Leon stumbled, and the faun heard his confirmation that the trap had been tripped. His eyes met the look the student at the front shot back at him, and he immediately glared then diverted is gaze to the shadows on the ground. Leon looked like he was working something out, and the increased heart rate thrumming inside Valentin's chest made him want to run away before while he could. But he swallowed thickly and continued to trudge along behind them.

They had traveled some distance by now and the air was even damper and thinner here. He dragged a hand habitually over the stone walls as they weaved around the jagged corners that led them ever closer to the tunnel's destination. They weren't far now, and his eyes skimmed the groves in the stone a little above their heads. When the antichamber lay only a short distance and a couple more tight twists away, Valentin's roaming fingers reached up and caught on a small knot of thin rope hanging from the wall that had been hidden in a shallow crevice. Knowing he would have to make a small hop and then give the thing a good pull, which he doubted would go unnoticed. So with a quiet yelp, he lurched forward a step to feign a stumble, grasping the string as he pitched forwards and letting his weight yank it down with him.

Hoping that no one would notice the shadowed string as it settled back against the rocks, he glanced up apologetically from where he appeared to have caught himself with his hands on the stone ground.

The sounds that followed echoed distantly above them. Small pockets of strategically placed pebbles and dirt were all released and pooled into the drilled air-tunnels that penetrated the roof of the tunnel. The sound of tiny landslides traveled up back the way they had come until eventually the succession ceased, with a final dusting of dirt raining down on them as the ventilation was thoroughly clogged.

Ideally, while this was happening, there would have been a small explosion triggered roughly 15 feet behind them to trap them inside with dwindling oxygen. Of course this uncompleted trap had never seen that update, so the way back out was still an option before the air this far in became too thin to breathe. With this many people in the tight space, Valentin supposed continuing forwards would at the very least become considerably more laborious, and it certainly wasn't a short walk back to the top, uphill. The fire would certainly help.

Post  Solasta Tue May 01, 2012 11:21 am

Funny? Solasta was hilarious, and she knew it. Even if it hadn't been a joke at all - the junkai would've been more than willing to tear her to shreds the moment such an event happened. At least, she told herself.

Giving something of a slight eyeroll at Shae's picky comment, she couldn't stop herself from bursting out into a loud "HA" at Leon's small stumble - a laugh that managed to echo a few more times before vanishing completly. Her mind didn't dwell for long on the 'fishline', as far as she thought, he'd merely tripped and was covering himself with an excuse. "Aii, aii, sure..."

The clattering behind her made her whip around in alarm, her firey tail leaving something of a trail in the air before fading. Her eyes settled on Valentin, who was sprawled across the ground. Her lips twisted upwards again into an amused smirk, and she looked as if she was going to say something condescending, before she heard a distinct rumbling noise above her.

"What's going on..." she murmured, her voice sounding almost uncertain as she gazed to the ceiling. A cave in? Had she predicted it? She spun back towards the direction they'd came from, but there didn't seem to be much noise from there. "Uhn..." Her expression almost looked nervous, and the fire on her tail did dwindle slightly. However, it lasted no more than a few seconds before it snapped baack to her usual, confident self.

"Probableh nothing!" she grunted as she began to move on. Even she could notice that the air was becoming increasingly more stuffier, and that somehow, the cave seemed almost.. prepared.

Post  Larita Marten Wed May 02, 2012 4:28 pm

Opening her mouth with the intention of thanking Shae for the she's too thin statement, which sounded like a compliment to Larita, she was first interrupted by Leon's tripping, for which she prepared to make a snide comment, but then Valentin's fall, in turn, interrupted the second thought. 'Can't you guys walk?!' she was about to say before the rumbling from above completely took over her. "Cave in!" Her shout was high pitched and ridiculous.

The immediate feeling was panic. She ducked down and looked up towards the ceiling, but couldn't quite tell where the rockslide was coming from. All she knew was that she didn't want to be under the rocks when they came down. The only thing she accomplished by looking up though, was to get a substantial amount of dirt in her eyes.

The debris stung and she shut her eyes against it, but this new temporary blindness only gave rise to her panic. Her hands flew to protect her face and, in her last effort to avoid the rocks, she stumbled backwards towards Shae, her arms flailing as she began to fall.

Beads of sweat began to appear on her nervously creased forehead and dirt clung to her riding outfit, which had been clean this morning. Normally, this small fact would upset her, but her mind was on more pressing things. "Are we alive?" she shouted, trying to blink the dirt from her eyes.

Shae didn't comment again, though he listened with something of a smirk.
He still didn't need to eat but talking about eating people was somehow just really funny. Mainly because it caused arguments and arguments were funny.

When Leon tripped and said something about a fishline however he stopped, raising a brow- an expression that quickly became surprise as the roof began to suddenly be not-so-solid above them. His first reaction was to wonder aimlessly that, if he was crushed under piles of rock and debris- would he die or would he just lie there unable to move. His second thoughts were interrupted in the process of forming as Larita stumbled towards him.

He reached out involuntarily to either catch her or grab her- he wasn't really sure which- bracing himself should she flail her way on top of him. Funny question, 'are we still alive.' It actually made him wonder, also making him wonder at his ability to wonder such things at the strangest of times. If they were about to die, were they still alive? He wasn't even alive in the first place... so could he die? Was his answer to that question already decided simply because his body had no life in it in the first place. Animated corpse... perfectly preserved but still a corpse. At least that's what he'd gathered from Reins assessment.

Post  Leon Barner Wed May 09, 2012 12:15 am

Leon's eyes immediately shifted to the ceiling as the rumblings sounded. There had been too much of a lapse between this and his breaking of the fishline for that to have been the cause. He looked back towards the deer kid who'd just tripped, finding his stumble to be rather conveniently timed. He hoped the faun didn't miss the threat in his eyes as he turned away.

Leon lifted the bottom end of the rod up to his hand, snuffing the small flame on the end of it. He wasn't sure if his energy consumed oxygen, but the rod gave off light without it anyway. He then pushed one end of the rod into the palm of his opposite hand, shortening it to about a foot in length. Now the object looked more like a glowstick than anything else.

He looked over his shoulder towards Larita as he continued to walk after Solasta. "I am, I don't know about you." A small smirk worked its way across his lips, at first towards Solasta's lapse in confidence and then at Larita's silly question and his own retort.

The ventilation insufficient, the effect was not immediate. The air was thick and dusty in the cave, even if it was cool from natural insulation. But as it was used, it was not replenished. As such, the group would be able to breath, but would still feel breathless over time.

The last trap had been the last before the main chamber. Just a small distance forward, there was a turn, which opened up in to a larger cave. The difference between this room and the hall was exactly that: it was a room. A room which was quite obviously inhabited frequently and currently. Along the far wall and in towards the middle of the room in neat rows, there were sturdy wooden tables. Upon their tops was a set up much like a lab, possibly more advanced than the ones in the school science classroom. Beakers, scales, glass stirs, mixers, clamps, cylinders, components, connectors, couplings, glass tubing and transfer lines, and a variety of valves. All was laid out and twisted together, an experiment in process. Bunsen burners were placed, some off, but some still boiling away at some concoction or another at a very low heat. Hanging by the entrance on a small jut of rock was an apron, goggles, and gloves. In a far corner was a pile of seeming junk: metal, gears, pipes, drills. There wasn't much, but it seemed that this was where the equipment that had helped on the tunnel was kept.

Of course, the cave was still obviously a cave. It was damp and cold, customary of being deep in the center of a mountain. The air was stifling, having no where to go, and mixed in it was the strong scent of chemicals. Formaldehyde was particularly strong in one direction especially. The ground was just as rough as the tunnel with indents and random rocks. Towards the edges of the room, stalagmites rose from the ground at varying heights and stalactites hung from the ceiling.

Far in the back, against the wall, was a large rock with a tea set laid out for two upon it with small rocks by its sides like chairs.

Leon's threatening glance was not missed, but it was pointedly ignored--along with Larita's needless antics--since that's really the only type of look he seemed quite capable of in Valentin's opinion. And then they were finally there...

Well that was it, Kale's jig was up. As they rounded into the final cavern, Valentin felt his lungs collapse in defeat and both ears drooped dejectedly down to his jaw. He knew they could manage putting two-and-two together at least well enough to match the Science professor up to this place. What with her having just come from here and everyone witnessing it. And really, who else would have a secret lab nestled suspiciously in the middle of the mountain?

It was surreal being here with a group of trespassers, like being in a school hall after dark; it just felt wrong. Habitually, his eyes flickered over the room's on-going experiments in order before falling on the makeshift tea table. The familiar stench of formaldehyde was more over-bearing in the thinning air than usual, and he just hoped that the others would realize it quickly and leave. He couldn't very well bring it up himself since that would draw attention and possibly more suspicion.

His lips remained tensely shut and he turned his gaze to glare discretely after the others' backs to gauge their reactions to the room.

((...Yes. sorry guys for taking sooo long on this >.<))

Solasta didn't bother responding to Larita's reasonably worried question, because truth was, she was mildly disappointed that she was hearing it at all. But sadly, there were no such casualties happening, according to her quick assessment of the group. At least, not until somebody suffocated in here. The junkai, of course, had no intention of doing that - she was getting out of here, with or without her hopeless accomplices.

But first, a little exploration was in order. There was no way she'd been investigating this deeply into a cavern as suspicious as this without finding something. It was either very brave or very foolish, but either one of those titles was preferable to 'cowardly'. Taking her place in the lead, as it ought to have been in the first place, she navigated around the corner, before coming face to face with the completely unexpected sight of an entire labratory. Before she had a chance to take in the sight, a powerful, pungent odour wafted into her face, causing her face to wrinkle with clear disgust. "What de heck is goin--?"

Interrupting herself, she merely blinked and looked around some more, as if still procressing this new setup. All these instruments, these glass containers, those discoloured chemicals, combined with the sights from earlier. It meant only one thing.

"Dat giant chicken..." she merely murmured to herself, a notable tone of contempt in her voice.

Post  Larita Marten Mon Jun 18, 2012 11:16 am

Realizing that she had not, in fact, been crushed, Larita pushed herself from Shae's hold-- not even bothering to thank him for stopping her fall. She then followed the others the rest of the way through the tunnel- wiping the back of her hand across her forehead. When she lowered her hand and saw streaks of sweat across her skin, she grimaced and scrubbed it away on Shae's jacket-- which she promptly took off and threw back at him. The air down here was stifling enough.

Her eyes widened to saucers as they entered the large cavern and she pulled at the collar of her shirt, unsure of why the air seemed to be thinning. A mumbled agreement pulsed through her lips at Solasta's chicken statement. There was no doubt that this belonged to the harpy professor-- Larita guessed that she would know this even if they had not seen her silhouette leaving the scene. It was certainly a relief that they had seen her leaving as well, or Larita would have been more anxious to leave.

She stepped into the room, glad to no longer be forced into that single-file line they had to stick to in the tunnel. Feeling that the science equipment was somehow dangerous, Larita wandered the other way-- towards the tea set. She picked up one of the cups, turning it over in her hand.

"Who would actually sit and have tea with that wretched woman?" she said out loud, her upper lip curled in disgust. But that was as far as her thoughts went. Larita was no detective-- and it didn't occur to her that this tea set also meant that there was someone else who knew about the laboratory. Of course, it also didn't occur to her than anything deadly could be going on. The illusion that all professors were innately good still clung to her teenage beliefs.

Post  Shae-Lantern Tue Jun 19, 2012 8:41 am

Shae caught his jacket without so much as batting an eyelid at Laritas... unladylike behavior. Rolling his eyes as he put it back on. He did note, however, the fact that she was sweating- so therefor... finding it hot. Or so he would assume. He couldn't really tell himself and it was a useful piece of information to know.
Either way neither the heat nor the stuffy atmosphere really bugged him, even as it became harder to get quite the amount of oxygen he would assume to require- he didn't see it as a particularly pressing threat.

Surveying the underground affair with interest he raised half a brow at Larita's comment, only half listening. "Hmm.. tea? Yes... you're right... I wonder who." And he did. Not because he wondered why anyone would want to have tea with her- he found her fascinating if slightly intimidating- but because he wondered he HAD come all the way down here to drink tea with her. If there was anyone- who knew maybe the harpy lady liked to drink tea with imaginary friends. Ok well he doubted that but still.. keeping an open mind to possibility seemed a good idea. Tea cups did not prove a persons existence.

He sniffed the air... it wasn't a smell he readily recognized- but this was obviously a lab set for science, and science involved many strange smells so it hardly played on his mind either. "I wonder why a bird would be tunneling underground, seems rather... unnatural." He mused in a passively interested voice. Though anyone could tell he was not merely making a lighthearted observation. Something was up, he had no idea what but it was a something. And he wanted to know what that something was.

Post  Leon Barner Mon Jun 25, 2012 6:36 pm

Leon had never really been interested in science, and his knowledge of it didn't go any further than the repetitive high school labs he'd done throughout the years. He wasn't altogether surprised by what he was seeing though. The science professor had probably wanted a private area to conduct her more private experiments. He wouldn't be surprised either if said experiments didn't meet legal standards either.

At the mention of tea, Leon found himself looking back towards the deer boy. Valentin definitely seemed to know something about the space, and Leon wouldn't have been surprised if he had been Kale's company down here.

One thing he knew for certain, this would be a perfect spot to hide a vial of unknown substance such as the one Pingo had been looking for. He glanced down to the now dried drop of blood on his hoody and decided it was worth the effort to have a look around. He scanned the tables first and promptly looked through any drawers or cabinets that may have been in the room. He kept the act relaxed, however. Simply having a look around as though he weren't looking for anything in particular.

Valentin siddled into the room with the others and slid towards along the edge of the cave, trying to discreetly melt into the shadows on the wall where he wouldn't garner too much attention. Narrowed eyes observed as everyone was apparently coming to the same--correct--conclusion. This was Kale's secret little labratory.

Larita's perpetually whiny voice--did she even know she sounded like that all the time?--was hard to miss, complaining about the tea cups. The tea cups, of all the things to currently be complaining about in this moment! He bit his tongue to refrain from barking a sharp retort in the harpy's defense. She was actually surprisingly good company for tea. In fact, tea time was wonderful because it usually occurred as a resting-reward for having accomplished something. The feeling of possessiveness was bristling though, and he managed to hold himself back for only a few moments before he stalked forwards to try and recover the tea cup from Larita's grasp before she could do something stupid like drop it.

Though perhaps Larita wasn't the keenest in the bunch, both Shae's comments made Valentin wary. And if he hadn't failed to notice the look Leon gave him, distracted as he was by protecting his teacup, he might have tried to be more discreet in his reaction.

The sound of moving doors and cabinets had him spinning about to pin a reprehensive glare at Leon. And his jaw clenched with the discomfort brought on of someone rummaging through your things while you could do nothing about it.

"Hey, you lummox, try not to break anything yeah?" He bit sharply, perhaps more loudly than he'd intended, and then tried to recover by adding with a bit more quietly, "You don't know what could be dangerous in here."

Post  Solasta Sun Jul 22, 2012 11:50 pm

Solasta was no scientist, never had been, and never planned to be. So when she peered at the odds and ends around the cavern, she was unable to arrive at any conclusion about the chemicals any more dignified than 'there's a lot of crap here'.

She looked towards the others to see what they'd make of the place... only to see Larita and Shae (who hadn't seem to have parted since the beginning) dawdling about the tea. Solasta's prime instinct was fury - and she reacted on that fury before anyone could stop her. Striding over, she snatched up a cup before smashing it to smithereens against the rocky floor. "Yo' crazy?!" she yelled, all prospects of indoor voices abandoning her. "We just discova a big cave! All sorts of t'ings! Big secret lab of de one-eyed chicken! And all you care about is de tea?!"

Face twisted in rage, she jabbed accusatory fingers at both of them. "Why don'tchu two go back to yo' home and have a tea parteh if dat whatchu want! Gosh!" Whipping around, she raised her arms in the air as if the two were a lost cause, before turning to face Valentin as he called at Leon. She was no crime investigator, but she knew something was up with him, especially seeing as there was a distinct lack of the prophesied lava bears.

"You!" She pointed at him, storming right up to him, her reign of anger not quite over. "You know somet'ing! Tell me or I will make suah dat dis place is your grave!"

Post  Larita Marten Mon Jul 23, 2012 7:13 pm

Larita shrugged her shoulders at Shae's suggestion that the tunnel seemed like an unnatural place for a harpy... being that she already assumed that everything the harpy-woman did was unnatural.

The loosely-held cup was snatched from Larita's hand rather easily, and she glared at the antlered culprit, her lips curled in disgust. She would have said something witty and pointed, if it weren't for Solasta's immediate outburst. Larita jumped back-- away from the shards of tea-cup that ricocheted off of the ground. "What the hell!" Larita shouted at the junkai-- who seemed to be occupied with their own confrontation. Larita crossed her arms over her chest and tapped her foot against the stone ground, and she was planning to stand like this until she was noticed. That is, until something else caught the young woman's attention.

Behind her, a wide stalagmite reached up from the ground, and was just a bit taller than a table might be. There was something-- something she couldn't quite put her finger on-- that was odd about the stalagmite. Perhaps it was the unnatural way in which it seemed to peak... as if something foreign was resting at the tip. Forgetting the argument that was going on beside her, Larita squinted her eyes and took a few steps towards the formation.

As she walked closer, she began to notice that there was definitely something odd. A vial-- much like the other scientific beakers in the room-- was stuck in the tip of the stalagmite, its glass reflecting the small bit of light that was in the cave. Larita wiped beads of sweat off her forehead and shook her head in an attempt to relieve the drowsiness that was slowly but steadily coming on. She circled the vial until she was facing it from the other side and the small group of students was in her line of sight. Then she reached out and clasped her fist around the vial. A lazy tug wasn't sufficient, so she pulled harder. Finally, there was the small "pop" sound of suction being released and the vial came loose from the stone.

Not even a second after she had freed the vial, a thick, slithering, green smoke began pouring quickly out of the stalagmite's now open hole. As the smoke filled the air in front of her, Larita screamed loud enough for anyone to hear and backed quickly away-- but there was not much room behind her, and before she knew it, her back had slammed into the wall. There was a stone just behind her shoulder that seemed to press -- much like a button -- when she made contact with it. At almost the same instant that this button was pressed, the floor opened suddenly beneath her and she fell.

A thick veil of smoke was able to seep down into the hole after her before the trap door-- just as suddenly as it had opened-- slammed shut. With the door shut, the smoke began to cover the floor, building its way up into the cave like water on a sinking ship.

Larita's screams could be heard for the entire length of her fall, and she thought for sure that she was going to die. Instead, she fell solidly onto a thick feather mattress. She breathed a sigh of relief, until she looked up and saw the green smoke rushing towards her. At that moment, she stood up and began to run down a tunnel towards the only light that she could see-- the forgotten vial still held firmly in her hand.

Back up in the cave, the sounds of Larita screaming seemed to fade away and the smoke continued to pour rapidly from the stalagmite. Anyone who breathed this smoke would begin to feel an immediate bought of sleepiness, and too much could make someone pass out completely.

He had been fully prepared at that point, to point out every little stupid thing Sol was doing, and make sure to explain why it was stupid as well. Those weren't their cups, this wasn't their room- and she couldn't threaten someone on such little basis (Though that part was amusing,) although he admittedly had suspicions himself. Still, he was about fed up with her traipsing and acting almost as self important as Larita did- which while being amusing for a while got rather tedious to the point where he felt making her cower or cry or at least shut up would be entirely more entertaining.

He unfortunately didn't get the chance.

he turned around at Laritas ridiculous, girly scream- expecting to see some big or stupid little thing like that- and found himself staring at her, or rather the place where she had been before she spontaneously fell into the floor, and at rather thick unpleasant looking gas that was becoming a quick presence.
Needless to say, punishing Solasta did not take precedence over getting away from whatever it was.

He started backing up towards the entrance of the cave, expecting that the others would have the decence to follow without being told to... it wasn't rocket science anyway. Although then again, knowing some of his classmates, maybe getting out of a room that was filling with green gas was a piece of logic that some would find hard to grasp.

((I HOPE I got all the details there right lol- correct me if I'm wrong..))

Valentin's words were treated as though they hadn't even been meant for Leon. Though he'd heard them, he didn't look away from what he was doing to acknowledge the deer. He did look up at the sound of the tea cup breaking. He made a point of rolling his eyes at Solasta's pointless action.

For a moment he continued rummaging through the drawers and cabinets. After nothing in these particular ones he stood and began to look around the room for anywhere else he could search. He looked up just in time to see Larita pull an object out of one of the stalagmites in the room. At the sight of the green smoke, Leon released his wings in some attempt to keep it away from him. If, in the process, he happened to accidentally blow some of it towards one of the others in the room, he wouldn't care either way. His mouth and nose were covered with his shirt. He didn't know what the gas did, and he didn't particularly want to find out.

What he was interested in was what had caused the trap to go off. Leon began to move towards Larita as she continued backing away, keeping one wing between himself and the stalagmite which was producing the smoke at all times.

Leon stood almost hunched so his wings could extend over his shoulders. Larita suddenly disappeared through the floor and Leon used one of his wings to sweep the area ahead of him in an attempt to clear away the smoke. By the time he reach the spot where Larita had been standing a second ago, however, the trap door had already closed. He took a second to locate the lines of the door and deliberate on whether he should actually follow or not. With the smoke continuing to take over the room and the way they had originally come in blocked it seemed to be the best available option.

Leon placed a palm on the floor and cast a phase spell, allowing himself to fall through it as well. Not knowing what to expect in the space below, he kept his wings close. Once he landed Larita's screams were easy enough to follow. He kept his head low, his mouth and nose covered and ran with his shoulders still hunched, trying to cut a path through the smoke with his wings and avoid inhaling the stuff as much as possible. At one point he turned in a spin, using one of his wings to sweep the smoke away and push it back the way it had come. "Larita!" The word was said more to let Larita know that he was here also than anything else.

A strangled cry of protest was all that made it out of Valentin when Solasta cast Kale's tea cup to the stone. There was a horrible moment like it was happening in slow motion and all he could do was watch and feebly tighten his protective grasp on his own cup - and then his brain was flickering madly between senarios where he would be trying to convince Kale that it wasn't his fault. If he'd had any sense of proportions, he might have realized quicker that this was not his biggest problem right now.

Wide, horrified eyes snapped to Solasta as the beastly girl suddenly seemed to be directly in his face. Both ears fell low together almost comically, and the fear that flashed across his face would likely be enough evidence for anyone who had been paying particular attention that Solasta had hit the nail on the head.

He floudered silently for a moment, trying to mouth words that he hadn't scrambled together yet - some believeable excuse - when Larita's scream cut through the air. He whipped his head to see what horror had befallen them now only to see the last whisps of the girl's hair disappearing into the floor before the door slammed shut after her. And dread filled him up into his throat so that he could little else but groan pitifully at the sight of the sick green smoke streaming from the stalagmite.

Valentin was quick to tug his shirt up and press it tightly over his nose and mouth - though the measly defense would only save moments he knew - and wasted no time darting forwards towards the stalagmite. He skidded to the ground in haste and held his breath while scrambling with his hands, dragging his fingers desperately through the heavy smoke on the ground in search of the vial. When he failed to find it and was hit with the first wave of extreme dizziness, he realized he couldn't dally, and would have to take the chance that Larita still had it or had, better yet, dropped it and left it at the bottom where she'd fallen.

Leon had already gone through and from the corner of his eye Valentin saw Shae back by the cave's entrance, but that wasn't an option for the rest of them. The smoke steadily filling the room would smother them before they could make it back up through the long winding tunnel, especially now with all of ventilation filled in. The lack of any new air only increased the rate at which the fould smoke could fill the area and Valentin continued to breathe as shallowly as possible between lapses of holding his breath. Scrambling quickly back to his feet, the faun shoved his fist into a small section of wall and he felt it give beneath the pressure. Suddenly the floor was gone from beneath him and he plumetted down through the escape tunnel. Not waiting to see if any of the others would follow, he rolled off the mattress, scanned the ground quickly for the vial and - finding none - took off down the narrow tunnel after Leon and Larita.

Post  Solasta Thu Aug 16, 2012 11:13 pm

Solasta didn't seem to take Valentin's fearful reaction as any sort of indication to his standing. As far as she was concerned, any one of her targets should be trembling in their metaphorical boots at the sight of her, and Valentin had shown anything but bravado since arriving here. But what frustrated her most was how a scream from a certain somebody cut their little interrogation short. Drawing in a breath intended for yelling obscenities at her room-mate, she was instead surprised to find a rather unexpected scenario before her - a rock pillar was now spewing out gas, and her hopeless accomplice had inadvertently escaped.

Red eyes narrowing at the strange gas, the junkai wasn't quite sure what to make of it. It seemed anything but harmful as it floated around her feet, but as it started to rise, it didn't take a genius to figure out it was intended as some sort of trap. A trap in which Solasta pridefully and mentally boasted that she would not fall victim to.

But first thing was first - getting the heck out of there. Escaping was never her preferred method, but what else was there to do? She looked to the others: Shae was making for the main exit, whilst Leon seemed to be snooping around for the trapdoor - before finding it and escaping. As she dwindled around on decisions, the faun too, escaped. It was then that the junkai realised that she simply could not allow that to happen.

She immediately took for the wall that Valentin had pressed, smothering her hands over it in an attempt to find just where this 'button' was. However, her hands seemed to miss, and the gas was rising a little too quickly for her to focus. When slamming randomly with her palms on the wall reaped no results, she was forced to to avert her attention to the 'door' instead. She knelt, feeling for the cracks of where the door should be; when the green smoke wafted into her face. It was then she truly got her first whiff of the strange gas - and was met with an overpowering sense of dizziness. For a moment, she swayed, reaching out an arm to the walls for balance. She had to escape fast.

The decision didn't take long to decide - maybe it was a reaction naturally ingrained within her. Quickly, she grabbed a large rock, about twice the size of her own head. Holding it high, she braced herself, before letting loose a fearsome screech and and hurling the miniature boulder down at the door. With a loud crack, it broke open, rock tumbling down the new opening. Without hesitation, she jumped downm allowing the green gas to briefly envelope her.

Upon landing, she moved quickly, trying to climb swiftly through the tunnel to follow the noise of the other escaping footsteps. However, though she forced herself forwards, her legs were starting to lag behind her as if burdened with a heavy weight. With her sight dwindling and her pace reduced to a lopsided crawl, she made her best attempt to cling to whatever conciousness she could, aiming to reach that dim light at the very end.

Post  Larita Marten Sun Oct 28, 2012 4:16 pm

Despite Leon's call to her, Larita continued sprinting down the never-ending tunnel. In her mind, the green smoke (most of which had, in fact, remained in the upper cave) was still following closely behind. With this imagined force at her back, there was nothing that would get Larita to stop now...

Not even the upcoming circular opening, which was full of evening light as she ran towards it so gladly that she did not stop to think there might not be solid ground waiting on the other side. Consequently, Larita practically lept out from the mountain side, and tumbled down a receding incline. Her arms flailed, her feet stretched and thrashed above her head. Somewhere along the way, she lost her hair-net, and strands of tangled brown hair clung to her sweat-stained face.

Miraculously, she did not let go of the vial. Even crumpled as she now was at the bottom of the hill (though relatively uninjured), her fingers wrapped around it tightly. Twigs stuck from her hair, dirt smeared her forehead, and her white shirt was ripped at both elbows. She remained lying on the ground, breathing heavily and waiting for someone to come and rescue her.

((Massive delay! Feel free to be pissed at me! I will do my best to keep up with this one thread from now on though! Graduate life with three jobs is tougher than it sounds! Okay, so it sounds tough. :-P Know that I miss you all.))

Shae cursed under his breath as he realized that everyone else seem to have a better idea of how to react than he did- the smoke was fast filling every nook and cranny it could find and that would include up the tunnel eventually enough. He didn't know if he could breath through it or what it even did but he didn't want to find out.

He had moved in the wrong direction though, and now his path seemed blocked either way. There was nothing for it really. With his jumper stuffed into every breathing crevice he had, he attempted to leap after everyone else, his legs reaching as far as they could. He felt dizzy, but somehow he managed to jump, or trip and tumble really down, landing on... something apparently soft and meant to be landed on.

With his top still clutched to his face, barely daring to breath, eyes blinking hazily he stumbled to his feet and began a rather drunken like pace along where he could hear the footsteps of his unlikely group ahead of him. His ghost light fluttered and fizzed around the room as if it really was drunk, occasionally sputtering and phasing in and out of existence. He forced himself to continue walking however, he'd be damned if he let himself get left behind with.. all this.. exciting.. stuff... happening.

((Yeah I totally ran the wrong way in my last post I thought everyone else might as well- so i kinda.. last minute trip and spun my way back into the flow of things if that's okaay ^^;;;))

Leon continued forward, flapping his wings occasionally to keep whatever of the green smoke was left in the tunnel away from his face. Just ahead, he could make out Larita's silhouette against the opening of the tunnel before it promptly disappeared.

He quickened his pace to get out into the fresh air as quickly as possible, fully extending his wings the very second he was able to do so. At the absence of any level ground to stand on, he brought his wings down and took flight. Despite all, Leon couldn't help but chuckle at the sight of the crumpled heap at the bottom of the incline that was Larita. Thinking back on it, the whole thing was like something out of an episode of Scooby Doo.

Leon lowered himself towards Larita, landing a few feet away walking the rest of the distance towards her. "Are you alive, Daphne?" Leon offered a hand to help her up, the remnants of his smirk still visible. No doubt that's what she was waiting for. Though he wasn't sure if he'd heard anyone else coming through the tunnel after him, he felt an inclination to nonchalantly ask before anyone else arrived. "What'd you find?"

There was a growing ache in Valentin's chest from subduing his breaths as he pressed on after the students ahead of him. Brief gusts wafted green gas into his face periodically and his eyes watered while he squeezed them shut, not thinking to blame the boy with the beating wings just out of sight. It was hard to push on, his limbs sluggishly struggling against his brain like he was trying to waft through a high snow drift, and at one point the front of a hoof caught on the uneven ground and Valentin stumbled sideways into the wall. He felt the scrape of the rough wall on his shoulder and rolled away from it, using the inertia to throw himself forwards.

The sight of light ahead offered more inspiration and when Valentin finally stumbled through into the evening light, he dropped the fabric of his shirt from his face and swallowed the clean air greedily even as he pitched forwards over the decline. Relatively familiar with the landscape, he managed to hop sporadically and maintain some image of not-falling-on-his-face-on-the-way-down. Hooves skidded through some loose dirt at the bottom, and he barely managed not to plow into Larita, pitching himself to his knees to stop the momentum.

Leon might have looked impressively composed had Valentin paid him any mind, but he had no regard for the way the other student was kindly offering to help Larita up, or the fact that the girl looked thoroughly roughed up and out of commission. His eyes were frantically scouring the ground around them and over Larita's form, bypassing her tattered condition in favor of trying to catch a glimpse of the illusive vial. He hadn't heard Leon's question to her.
