Someone's Luck - Page 2 Empty Re: Someone's Luck

Don't freak out... Owen couldn't guarantee that he would keep that promise, but he'd do his damn best to keep on a brave face. Leon's 'captain obvious' input was met with nothing but a stare. Well, of course it was huge. Didn't have to be an expert to know that.

Owen might not have been the brightest tool in the bucket, but even he knew how Leon was going to.. avoid it. That's right. Leon was too scared to face some dumb snake - he was going to prance over it with his girly wings like it was some beautiful spring afternoon. Owen scoffed, flexing his arms casually. "What'm I gonna do? I'll show you."

So past the tough exterior, Owen was probably trembling like a leaf. He'd never dealt with snakes before, at least, not this close. Even at zoos, it was difficult to make any sort of communication without earning weird stares from the general public. But if all went well, then.... Leon had better damn well be impressed.

He stepped forward slowly and tentatively, approaching it until he was merely a few feet away from it. The snake never once moved - it was still and staring. He took a deep breath. "Get off the path." There was a moment of silence. The snake still didn't move. He tried again. "Get off the path." His voice was firmer. Finally, the creature stirred into movement, hissing lowly and barely audibly:

Myyy patthh...

Oh no, it was approaching him. The boy stumbled backwards a few steps, eyeing it with dread. He could see its gleaming fangs... Then his brows furrowed. "Get the hell off the path or I'll stomp on you!"

The snake hesitated. Then it turned, and started to harmlessly slither away. He took a deep breath, before continuing down the now safe path, not bothering to even give Leon a glance as he did so.

Leon watched after Owen as he approached the snake, thinking the boy was probably going to do something stupid. "Don't get bit. I'm not dragging you back to the castle if you do." He did follow after the boy just a little bit, so he could have a clear view of what was happening.

Leon held back a scoff at the boy's course of action. Just ask nicely, maybe the snake will move. Was this what Owen's logic had come to? He simply continued to watch the spectacle, raising a brow as Owen repeated his command.

Leon was mildly disappointed when the snake complied with Owen's demands. What a stupid snake. It'd let this random boy come around and kick it out of where it was comfortably sunbathing? Leon gave the area where the snake had escaped to a sideways glance as he passed it.

Though he took his time in catching up to Owen, he managed to complete the action before the subject of the snake had time to die down. "Look at that. You're a regular Ace Ventura." He acted mildly impressed, though his tone still seemed to be belittling. "Dr. Doolittle, even." A smirk crossed his face as he continued. "Got a way with animals much?"

Owen couldn't really tell if Leon had actually been impressed at all with his display or skill or if he was only mocking him again. Of course it was the latter. It was always the latter. Did nothing get to this boy? How many people could Leon claim to know that had stormed into snake's territory and tell it to beat it - and have said snake actually comply? He could've sworn that Leon wouldn't know many.

And Owen was still quaking in those filthy shoes of his. Because, even if it was just for a brief moment, he really thought the snake was going to strike him. He thought it was going to snap its fangs down on him, paralysing him, coiling its body around him until he could no longer breathe. And Leon would've been there to see in all his morbid satisfaction. He really could've died. But he didn't - he pulled off a stunt that no man could say they'd done before.

And even despite that, Leon still had the outright nerve to joke about it? Compare it to some cheesy comedy flicks? His scowl was not amused. At all. "So maybe I do!" he snapped back. "D'you think it's funny? Ya know what I find funny?" He gestured with a frustrated wave of his arm to where they'd been standing before. "I find it funny that you were being a massive pansy-ass wimp back there. Looks like the shoe's on the other foot, huh?!" His arms raised in a challenging manner as he continued to shout at him. "Too scared to face some stupid overgrown worm?! Let's face it. You couldn't do what I just did in a million years." He turned to continue down the path. His limbs were trembling.

Someone's Luck - Page 2 Empty Re: Someone's Luck

Post  Leon Barner Thu Apr 12, 2012 1:48 pm

Leon hung his head back in mild annoyance as Owen began to raise his voice. Leon found it funny that Owen all of sudden felt he was superior. A single success, and suddenly he's on top of the world. He'd been trying to restrain any laughter, but after the "million years" bit,it just happened.

"A million years? I'd give it ten. Communicating with animals? I'm sure there's a spell for that. If I was even mildly interested in being able to do that, then I'd teach it to myself." Leon's expression hardened as he began to get more serious. "I don't need to be able to do that, though. With all the other things I can do, why the hell would I need to be able to do that?" Here he scoffed. "So you can talk to animals. You're not as completely useless as you seem. Congratu-f***ing-lations."

Leon shook his head disappointingly and continued his fast pace. Did Owen expect praise? Did he forget who he was dealing with?

Someone's Luck - Page 2 Empty Re: Someone's Luck

Post  Owen Mueller Thu Apr 12, 2012 8:08 pm

Owen froze. Oh. Oh. Leon's laughter grated his nerves like sandpaper. The demon didn't have to do anything. He didn't have to say anything at all, and Owen would've been satisfied. But no, he just had to twist the knife in a bit deeper, didn't he?

So he'd finally found the one advantage he'd had over the other boy. He could speak to all animals. And now he was telling him that it was possible for him to do exactly the same? It was all too clear. There was nothing that Owen could do that the other boy couldn't do better. What use did transforming have? He'd already conquered his lizard form.

The torrent of depressive thoughts returned - Owen thought that he had subdued them for now. But no, they'd callously reminded him just how pathetic he was. Him and his good-for-nothing powers. But he'd tried so hard to rid of them! Why now...?

He gritted his teeth, anger boiling within him like furnace. "Just watch me! I'll ask a bear to claw your freakin' face off! Who'll be laughing then, huh?!" That Leon. That damn Leon. If he'd just kept that stupid trap shut.... His shoulders tensed, his fists clenched, and he eyed the demon with a sort of seething fury overcoming him. He needed to dismember something now. Rip every hair from his scalp before kicking his shins into submission...

Stop, Owen. Stop.

He blinked, realising himself. His arms relaxed, and deep breaths were taken. Inhale, exhale. That voice... in his head. It sounded like his own voice, but he hadn't recalled making himself think that. What was it...? He wasn't allowed to ponder for long though, because Leon had already started to stride off in his impossibly fast pace. Maybe it wasn't really a big deal. Maybe he'd just imagined it. But somehow, it was able to calm his nerves a little.

But Owen wasn't about to follow the demon easily. He threw up his arms in the air as a sort of surrender. "Y'know what! I ain't dealing with this! I don't need you! I'm gonna find the cave by myself!" With that, he turned away, and started to venture off the path completely. That path probably led to nowhere anyway, the demon was an idiot. Not once looking back, he started to ascend the rocky slope on his lonesome.

Someone's Luck - Page 2 Empty Re: Someone's Luck

Post  Leon Barner Sat Apr 14, 2012 2:10 am

Leon shook his head as Owen continued his rant. He said nothing though. He wasn't about to get into this argument with this child. He didn't know the specifics of Owen's ability, but there was one thing he knew for certain. Bears can't fly. And if he called him a coward, so what?

That was the difference between him and Owen. Leon knew when he was in over his head. No amount of childish taunts is going to convince him to sit there and allow himself to be mauled by a bear. Owen on the other hand would rather do nothing, allow anything and everything to attack him until somebody comes around and saves his ass. Was that perhaps his definition of bravery? To sit with your head between your knees until somebody came around and gave you a hug? Kiss your wounds for you?

Leon had half a mind to simply throw himself off the side of the path, let his wings take him where they would. Preferably out of the mountains. With this stupid assignment of Blake's, he was liable to run into other undesirables out in the mountains. Maybe the cliffs were clear now.

Leon looked back to where Owen had walked off the path. He let out a single laugh as Owen took on the rocky road, then proceeded to act on his earlier. He didn't let himself drop far before unfolding his wings. However, rather than make way for the cliffs, he gave a wide turn and headed back to where Owen had deviated from the path.

Where Owen had to climb, the demon simply flew. It wouldn't take long for him to overtake Owen. He occasionally kicked of the slope as well, employing all six limbs to aid his ascent. If some stones were knocked loose and they dropped over Owen, oh well.

Someone's Luck - Page 2 Empty Re: Someone's Luck

Post  Owen Mueller Sat Apr 14, 2012 3:25 pm

Let's face it, Owen wasn't the epitome of fitness. The most he'd done in terms of exercise was the gruelling walk between his dorm room and the dining hall. The stretches he did in the morning. The repetitive motion of raising the fork to his mouth... It certainly wasn't enough to be qualified for mountain hiking, at the least.

So it came as no surprise that by the time he'd heaved himself up several feet of the rocky incline, that he was already running short of breath again. He wasn't even climbing any more, merely crawling up the slope on his hands and knees, grappling for the nearest ledges before him and pulling himself up. And there was still so much to go... How was he ever--

Move, Owen. To the right.

Owen wasn't even thinking as he quickly jerked to the right - avoiding a few small stones that tumbled to the left of him. He... dodged them? How did he manage that? He wasn't even aware that they were coming. He glanced up the slope to see Leon further up. Oh, he just wouldn't leave him alone. It was a race, was it? A race that Leon was guaranteed to win, thanks to those cheating wings of his though.

But soon, Owen found new adrenaline within him to push forward just that bit more. He clambered upwards, despite the protest of his limbs or the shortness of his breath. Was Leon in hearing range? Well, Owen was determined to have a shot at communicating anyway. With just one word.

"DICK."

Someone's Luck - Page 2 Empty Re: Someone's Luck

Post  Leon Barner Sun Apr 15, 2012 2:42 pm

Leon certainly hear the one word Owen said. But hey, as if he hadn't been called it before. In fact, Leon didn't even find it offensive. Like with his burns, he'd grown quite the immunity to these types of comments.

Truthfully, Leon didn't know what was compelling him to continue with this. It wasn't as if there was any competition between him and Owen. What competition could there be in the mountains? Between the human kid who spent all of his sleeping and playing video games and the demon who spent his time flying through forests and mountain ranges for the express purpose of flight practice.

He'd continue anyway though. He wasn't one to leave anything half done. Besides, this was good practice for him. He didn't look back down to see if the stones were deterring Owen's ascent. That wasn't his problem. They wouldn't be Owen's problem if he was a faster climber. Leon didn't care that Owen considering his wings to be cheating. How was threatening to sick a bear on him any different? Leon was simply making use of what was available to him. He would never say he didn't need his wings, simply because it would be a bold-faced lie. He needed his wings like a drowning man needed a lifesaver, and he'd never claim otherwise, especially not with the very real threat of losing them looming over his head.

Finally, Leon reached the top of the slop. Putting a leg up onto the leg at the top, he kicked of it and continued up into the air. That thought process always made feel as if he needed to be in the air. He looked down to see Owen was still climbing. At least he hadn't given up. Leon had half expected him to do just that.

The ledge he was currently flying over gave a rather clear view of the surrounding area. Leon flew around the area several times at different altitudes, identifying several areas which could have been caves. Good. He'd wait for Owen to come and say that he was going to make the climb to each of them on his own.

Someone's Luck - Page 2 Empty Re: Someone's Luck

Owen couldn't be sure if he was hiking a mountain or if all of his limbs were painfully being yanked. By God, he hadn't realised how much it hurt. And there was Leon, just effortlessly flying ahead. But just because he took the easy route, it didn't make him more admirable, did it?

The adrenaline was all too fleeting, and again, Owen was finding difficulty in mustering the will to press on. Had it been a slower pace or maybe just a casual walk, Owen probably could have pulled through without practically flopping up the slope. But it felt more like a race - a race between Owen and Leon's expectations of him. The resulting extra effort left him more exhausted than usual.

By some miracle, he'd managed to snail all the way up to the top of the slope. And upon doing so, the boy would immediately collapse onto his side, completely worn out. Oh, he didn't want to do this anymore. He wanted to go back. Back to his comfortable bed, and do nothing but stare at the ceiling. It was getting chilly up there, and Owen instinctively raised his hands to his biceps to somehow help with the cold.

But he did take one last glance down at the view around him. Mountains. Endless mountains. Well, they looked endless - he wasn't exactly at a high enough point to see over them. But they had to be near a cave... right? As far as he knew, Leon had probably already reached it without him. Maybe celebrating his victory without him. The boy rested his head back down on the mildly uncomfortable surface, not really planning on moving anywhere any time soon. He didn't quite know where the other boy was but... quite frankly, he didn't care.

It seems to be ages before the other boy made it up the slope, but that may have just been Leon's impatience speaking. He could, instead, have been surprised that he made it up at all. Surprised was one of his least favorite emotions to portray.

Owen was exhausted though. Leon made one final round before making his way back to where Owen lay, casting his shadow over the boy as he passed overhead. He landed not far off and shook his wings out a bit. He took a few steps towards the boy, pocketing his hands. His tone was rather impatient when he spoke. "So what's next?"

Someone's Luck - Page 2 Empty Re: Someone's Luck

Post  Owen Mueller Sun Apr 15, 2012 7:45 pm

Hearing footsteps next to him, Owen forced himself to glance up at the other shape. Leon. Why wasn't he surprised. Just couldn't bear to leave him alone for long, could he? Luckily, his following words weren't some demeaning crack about him, but Owen could've sworn that he was thinking it.

What's next. Right. Owen wasn't meant to be lying around hopelessly. Fortunately, he'd managed to regain some his breath in the time it took for Leon to return, but he was by no means recovered from his climb. Sluggishly, he peeled himself from the ground, taking a great amount of effort merely to return to his feet, dusting himself. He was more than ready to reply with a big fat 'dunno', before his brows furrowed unhappily with a scowl. He remembered: they weren't meant to be working together. He opening his mouth to retort...

You can't do it alone, Owen.

The words hadn't even left his mouth when the voice sounded in his head again. Okay. So maybe there was quite a bit to walk yet, and Leon would be better at looking for caves than he would be. But the philosophy stayed strong in his mind - he'd rather trail around lost, cold and starving for hours than spend another minute with Leon.

But he was compelled to obey the voice anyway. He'd get help, it just wouldn't be Leon.

In fact, looking past the boy, he could see the perfect candidate. A sheep, a lonesome sheep, just dawdling about the hillside, munching idly on grass. And Owen was well aware that sheep often followed orders without much fuss. They were just mindless, stupid animals like that.

"I'm... just... g-gonna finish the assi... assignment... now," he breathed to Leon, before forcing his legs towards the oblivious creature. Thankfully, it wasn't an uphill struggle any more, and he managed to reach the woolly animal with a slight stumble and an exhausted, clumsy gait.

"Stay... still," he told it once it was within hearing range. It had already been simply standing, but even it's chewing paused as Owen said the words. Perfect. Taking a deep breath, he raised one leg over the sheep, planting it on the other side. The animal looked confused, but Owen gently reminded it again that it should remain still.

Then he sat down. Obviously not a creature that was designed to carry human weight, it bleated in slight alarm, before the boy hurriedly tried to calm it with frenzied reassurances. Then it calmed, standing completely still, allowing the boy to remain seating. Owen couldn't help but grin at his success.

"Forward... go forward... Towards the mountains," he urged it on. It remained still, and he continued. "There's food..." That did the trick. The sheep took a step forward... a wobbly, slow, shaky step forward. Then another. It was around then that Owen realised that using the sheep as a mount was going to make the journey slow. Really, painfully slow. But at least he wouldn't have to do it by foot, because he really wasn't in the mood. If Leon thought it was pathetic, then he could stuff it.

Hands steadying himself on the sheep, he continued to sit as it tottered forward at a reasonably unproductive pace.

Someone's Luck - Page 2 Empty Re: Someone's Luck

Leon crossed his arms in front of him as he waited for the boy to respond. Really, did everything with him have to be so sluggish? He raised a brow as the boy promised to finish the assignment about to ask how when he stood and made his way over to the sheep. At first, he wasn't sure what Owen was doing with the sheep, however his eyebrows creased when he realized Owen's intentions.

"Come on, would you leave the stupid sheep alone?" Words didn't exist to describe how utterly pathetic the scene was. He was riding a friggin' sheep. The idea that he was simply witnessing this right now in itself was embarrassing for him. Did Owen honestly believe he had any dignity whatsoever? No, he had dignity. False dignity. Odds were that once this was all over Owen would go back to the castle and tell everybody that it was wolf or some other wild animal that had served as his "steed" rather than a friggin sheep.

Leon begrudgingly caught up to the boy, not having to go faster than a casual walk to accomplish this. "You're seriously going to make me wait for you?" Of course, the answer was no. If that's what Owen expected from him, then Leon would simply leave and that would be the end of it. However, he'd wait for the boy's response before acting on the thought.

Someone's Luck - Page 2 Empty Re: Someone's Luck

Owen looked at Leon. From his half closed eyes and the generally tired, slow way that he moved, it hard to tell if he was actually functioning or merely sleepwalking. "S'not stupid," he grumbled back inelegantly. "He.. knows where he's goin', y'know..." An encouraging pat was given to the sheep, who continued to stagger forward lamely.

It was then he addressed the boy's latter question. "You seriously gonna force me to run at a hundred miles an hour, huh? Just to catch up?" He raised his chin snootily, glowering at the opposite boy. "S'only fair, y'know."

The poor sheep could only withstand a certain amount of weight. It took just a few more steps before it knelt down - before sitting completely. Owen stared blankly at the sheep for a few moments, before huffing as if it were such an inconvenience, and standing up again. He started to stride away down the slope towards where there might be a few caves positioned (although he really couldn't tell from where he was). He didn't wait nor look at Leon, but his pace was at such as speed that it would be easy to catch up. Without his knowledge, behind him, the sheep he had been riding stood again, and had started to tentatively follow him.

Leon shook his head. He wasn't going to wait around and let Owen prolong this stupid assignment for longer than it had to be. "I'm not forcing you to do anything. That would be your own mental obligation to keep yourself from looking weak in front of me. This sheep isn't helping that cause by the way." He shrugged. "But if you can't keep up then go home. It's make things easier for me." Leon looked to Owen with something of an amused smirk. "I'll even tell Blake you did most of the work so your grade in this class doesn't get hurt."

Leon looked to the sheep as it failed and shook his head. "Would let the poor sheep go already? Why should it have to carry your weight?" Leon followed as Owen walked down the slope, since he'd given up riding the sheep. Surprisingly enough, Owen moved faster on foot than on the sheep. He shook his head. Why was he dealing with this?

Someone's Luck - Page 2 Empty Re: Someone's Luck

Owen could not honestly say that he was listening carefully to Leon's useless argument with much attention. He just couldn't bring himself to care at all about his stupid negotiations, his biased assumptions. Owen, for all intents and purposes, just wanted to complete the stupid assignment and get it over with. And if Leon wanted to be a nitpicking whingebag about it, then he could.

"If he didn't want to, he would've said no," he simply huffed, simply staggering alone at a pace that took notable effort to maintain, before glancing before him to see where they were heading.

From where they were, the slope dipped down, rather steeply at some points, but not too terribly low. At the bottom of the ravine, there was a small, pebbly stream - barely deep enough to run higher than their ankles. It was only a few feet wide and looked rather weak, but it was fast enough to have managed to carry a few twigs in its flow. Just on the other side, the slope would turn sharply upwards again, leading up into the real mountains. It was muddy and rocky, with a few patches of grass between, but nevertheless, some parts seemed to require actual climbing. For one of the boys, anyway. However, just beyond that higher up, there seemed an obvious gap in the side of the mountain, even from the distance they were standing at. A cave. Their destination was finally in sight.

He was almost disappointed at the prospect of more adventuring. Almost. But the dumb assignment was almost over. He started carefully down the slope, taking more care then usual not to slip up. The sheep still trailed slowly behind him, perhaps still interested in the prospect of food at the other side. And again, Owen would attempt to pay as little attention Leon as he could.

Leon shook his once more. He was going to start an argument with Owen regarding what a friggin sheep wanted. It stood to him as common sense that most living creatures did not want to carry the weight of an obese child on its back. Why the hell should they? Especially a sheep. A sheep was not in any way, shape or form a notable mount. The thing was hungry. That's why it was following him. It thought the stupid kid would give it food. The dumb sheep was going to be disappointed.

One thing was for certain though, Leon was done with this kid. Looking ahead towards the slope Owen have to hike to get up to the cave.. No, Leon wasn't waiting for that. He'd go up to the cave on his own, get whatever was in that stupid box, and throw it at Owen for all he cared. He didn't need it.

Leon picked up his pace, uncrossing his arms and pulling ahead of Owen. When he was a fair distance ahead, he lifted his wings and took to the air, headed up towards the cave. A raised middle finger over his shoulder served as his only farewell to Owen.

Well, what a splendid surprise - Leon was flying off again. He supposed to concept of physical exercise hadn't appealed to him at all (although he'd be a hypocrite to make such accusations). He wanted so bad to return the vulgar gesture, but Leon wasn't looking at him anyway. Not like that mattered. He raised both of his middle fingers in return.

Noticing the sheep tottering up behind him, he gave a slight attempt of a smirk before giving it an encouraging pat. Stupid Leon. There was nothing wrong with giving the sheep more purpose in life than it had probably ever fathomed before. He continued onwards towards the small stream, not even slowing down as the water trickled around his heels uncomfortably. He simply strode straight through, uncaring if the edges of his rugged trousers got a little damp.

The next obstacle was the slope. Its height was daunting, and Owen found that he'd have to mentally prepare himself for the climb. He stood for a moment, taking deep breaths. Right. Better get on with it before the demon got impatient. He started forward, grappling the first ledge that he could. Ow. Arms ached already, and he'd hardly started. Oh well. He hauled himself upwards, more willing to face the brutal soreness of his limbs than be forced to endure Leon's unimpressed remarks. He soon realised that the latter would be inevitable anyway, and his energy seeped away, eventually face-dirting on the side of the slope.

The odd, sprawling position was maintained on the side of the mountain for around half a minute, and it seemed like he wasn't going to move from the spot. Then he stirred, almost undead in nature, raising a drowsy arm to haul himself up the remainder of the slope. It felt like he'd reached heaven when he was finally met with a flat surface, and an exhausted glance before him revealed the entrance of the cave. "...Haahh..."

Leon could get the box. If there was even a box at all...

Leon didn't look back towards Owen to see the returned gesture. He couldn't care less. Once past the stream he flew straight up the slope, flying up well past where it flattened out once more. He then came to a peak in his ascent and began to come back down, almost directly. He leveled out again, coming just over the flat ground in front of the cave and pulled his wings in tight against his back, actually flying into the cave.

Leon didn't go too in this way though, only about 3 meters, before he retracted his wings entirely before coming to a skidding halt within the cave. It was done entirely to show off, and nothing more. Once inside, Leon summoned energy to each of his hands for visibility purposes and located the box sitting at the very back of the cave.

Leon made way for the object, and used his foot to kick it up to him in a similar way you did with a soccer. He extinguished the flames at his hands just before catching it. He carried the package back out to Owen, tossing it to the other boy without even having opened it. "Was it your woman's intuition that told you it was this cave?" Feminine or not, Leon was grateful Owen had managed to pick out the correct cave. This charade had already gone on long enough. And, hell, at least the kid had done something.

Owen had managed to catch a glimpse of the very end of Leon's show-offy display. He was neither impressed nor interested, but he did wonder just how many times the other boy planned to flaunt his superiority over him. He got the message already.

He would've been happy enough to just lie there, but apparently, his feelings didn't really matter much. So he scraped himself into an upright sitting position, his back turned towards the cave. Of course, given that he couldn't actually see what Leon was doing, he had no way of preparing for his throw. As such, it thudded lightly off his shoulder before falling to the ground.

Disgruntled, he reached for the box, reluctantly starting to open it as if it were a present from his grandmother. When the lid was pried open, what he didn't expect was that gun that sat there--

Gasping, he covered it with the lid again, looking over his shoulder at Leon. He said nothing to his remark, only focusing on checking if he would actually be able to see what he was opening. He couldn't, of course. Not unless he had x-ray vision. Which wouldn't surprise Owen, to be honest.

Peeping open the lid, he took another look at the gun. Well, it looked more like a toy. It was coloured brightly red, and didn't really look like a standard gun - a very cruel joke that professor Blake might play. But there was a chance, and he wasn't going to waste it. Suddenly, he would yank the flare gun out of the box, aiming it directly at Leon. No lip. No threat. He pulled the trigger, cringing his eyes shut from the bright light that emerged from the barrel.

Leon had reached to edge the slope and was fully prepared to simply take off an be on his way, knees bent, wings lifted up into the air. He considered, for Owen's sake, finding Professor Blake and letting him know that the boy was still out here. He doubted Owen's ability to make it back to the castle in one piece.

The flare hit near the area where Leon's right wing connected with his back. The blackish feathers in the area took on some of the coloring of the flare, giving the red tint. Leon tried to suppress a groan of pain, but the sound came out muffled anyway.

Leon quickly turned back towards, an angry gleam lighting his eyes, however they remained the color they always were, not darkening. He began making his way towards Owen, gaining ground in a way that would allow him to reach the boy in just a few steps if he remained where he was.

"You just have to find ways to start s***, don't you??" Leon kept his wings risen as he approached the boy, the reddened feathers blocked from Owen's view by his shoulder. This in combination with his facial expression served to make him appear that much more aggressive. He summoned some energy into his right hand as continued towards the boy.

It hit. It actually hit. He tentatively opened his eyes at the sight. Well, it wasn't a real gun, but it was at least some sort of weapon. And it had actually hit its mark. It was a fantastic stroke of luck that Owen honestly hadn't expected, but of course, he would soon realise that it hadn't done as much damage as he'd hoped when the boy started to head straight towards him.

Crud.

He pulled the trigger. A click. He pulled it again, and again, and again. Click click click. His jaw opened in a silent cry of despair, and the gun was dropped. From his seated position, he tried to scramble backwards - until he realised that just behind him, there was a steep slope.

His eyes returned hopelessly towards the demon. There was't anywhere he could escape, and even if there was, Owen knew he could barely be able to make it four steps before collapsing again. There was nothing he could do, but cower before the boy, both of his arms raised to shield his face.

Leon closed the remaining distance between himself and Owen. Owen's poor judgement was going to be the death of him. Leon was certain of this. Owen had just shot him in the wing with, what?, a flare gun? A single shot flare gun. The wing. His friggin' wing...

Well, Leon would take advantage of this opportunity. Before reaching the boy, he formed the energy of his left hand into a two-foot rod, a shape he was quickly becoming fond of. Upon reaching Owen, he moved to plant one end of the rod on his shirt, between his pecs. The object was likely hot enough to burn through the fabric and into the boys skin. A burn for a burn.

Leon retracted his wings, keeping himself from grimacing as the reddened feathers passed into his skin. He'd need to give them a moment. Just enough time to say what he wanted to say. "This is going to be my only warning to you." His tone was serious as a heart attack, and he continued applying added pressure to the rod so any damage would burn that much deeper. "If you ever so much as look at my wings directly again, you'll wish I'd been infinitely harsher this time around."

With that, Leon allowed the rod to dissipated, starting from the lower end and going back up to his hand. He then turned back the way he'd come and made his way back to the sloped, releasing his wings once more just as he reached the edge. After shaking them out a bit, he'd continued the action which Owen had interrupted earlier, kicking off the edge and allowing his wings to carry him wherever they may.

Owen's eyes were cringed shut, and his arms were raised to shield his face. Oh God. Leon was going to hurt him. Memories flooded into his mind once again. The moment he saw his shredded foot... Or when his back was set alight from the demonic fires... or when blood had gushed from the scar on his hand. Oh please, God, he didn't want it to happen again. A choked whimper escaped him. Please. PLEASE--

An intense heat was pressed onto his chest and his eyes snapped open to a rod before him. The fabric singed away immediately, and it all too easily reached the skin. The pain hit him, and horribly so, like a drill was boring into his chest. A scream of anguish tore past his throat. It was loud. Desperate.

Leon's words were like muffled noises in the background. The threatening tone, however, was not missed, and succeeded in adding a painful amount of insult to injury. And when Leon pressed down harder, his cries only became more desperate, until they merely escaped as voiceless rasps, his jaw twisted open in silent agony. It hurt.

Finally, he stopped. And moved away. Gasping, Owen slumped to his side, curling up where he lay. It didn't stop hurting. He clutched his chest with both hands, barely noticing that Leon had abandoned the scene, barely hindered by his sneakish assault. Why hadn't he just finished him off? Why leave him like this?! It took just that for Owen to realise why he'd locked himself in the first place. Life sucked. Big time.
