Books and Boredom (Shae and Sheloe) Empty Books and Boredom (Shae and Sheloe)

Post  Shae-Lantern Thu Jan 09, 2014 9:00 am

Reading reading reading- was this really what his life had boiled down to? Spending every day in here? Whenever he wasn't reading them himself Shae was shelving books that people had left around, putting books back where they belonged and even flipping through page after page searching for dog-ears to fold out. This was what he had become- not only was it pathetic, it was boring. Sure he enjoyed reading, because he enjoyed knowing things. Thing was there was only so much you could read and know before you started running out of things that interested you, let alone any information on he himself. Of that there was practically nothing- he had pretty much given up looking for it.

He had been at this cursed island for years and all he'd managed to find out about himself was he was dead. That and he had a thing for cats- but he was pretty sure that had developed itself during his stay. In fact he was almost certain that was new, and he hadn't come to expand on his personality, he had come for answers and perhaps a bit of entertainment. That was another thing that was running short. Very little interested him anymore. At first it had been fun meeting people and gaining their trust- but what good was trust if you couldn't betray it? What good was it talking to people if he was forbidden to hurt them?

The answer was, of course; no good at all. They were boring. This place was boring- and he was getting boring too. Reduced to flipping through pages of meaningless prose while he desperately tried to think of something- anything to put the life back into his undead existence. Currently however he was just sitting down per usual, eyes shining down at a book about just some other boring thing. Boring. He was Bored.

He was bored and nothing good ever came of that.

Books and Boredom (Shae and Sheloe) Empty Re: Books and Boredom (Shae and Sheloe)

After the fiasco that was the Ball, Sheloe felt like she should never leave the Infirmary ever again -- both to be ready to help any sudden casualties and because she clearly was good for nothing else. If only she didn't like the sensation, she would have said the fasting was punishment.

The lack of entertainment was suffering, though; and even though she deserved it, after a few days it started to feel like a waste. She should be expanding on her abilities to fulfill her role better.

And so, in the absence of bodies to dissect, she headed to the library for a medical book or two. Her old bag slung over her shoulder, Sheloe made her way to where she knew she could find what she was seeking.

She turned a corner. A thin figure was seated with a book.

There was a dark, dark forest, much like the one in her recurring dream, but here the undergrowth was red. Painted red. The red dripped down from the leaves to disappear and become one with the earth again.

With a groan, Sheloe stumbled, almost falling over, then quickly shook her head and looked up at the figure with sharp, wide eyes. How... peculiar.

Shae looked up as he sensed a presence nearby. Eyes flickering as he surveyed the area, quickly spotting the source of the movement which had suddenly invaded the corner of his eye. An interesting creature. All fur and feathers.. almost all anyway. Certainly something new to him, although through his constant reading he knew it whatever magical being out was, was a baboon or at last seemed to be. It reminded him of 'The Wizard of Oz' which had been another attempt by him to stave off boredom. Still no judging a book by it's cover he thought with a touch of sour sarcasm.

Still whatever it was it wasn't actually a book, and therfore was bound to be more interesting than one. Especially whatever he was reading right now. A tome so dull he couldn't even remember what it was about anymore.

Smiling softly as ever he focused his attention on her, casually flipping the page he hadn't read yet.
"Evening, can I help you with any books? Looking for something in particular perhaps?" His tone was mild and questioning. As if he actually cared I about being helpful like a good library assistant. As he asked he closed the book in his own hands, making it subtly clear that all his attention was now devoted to the creature before him.

(( I apologise in advance for any mistypes I missed- I'm on my phone and it types weird things sometimes without me noticing. I read back and found nothing but if I did miss something I do apologise. xD; ))

Blood. Was it blood that he'd shed, or spilled? Or maybe simply witnessed...?

Either way, he gave off an aura of death.

She watched him quietly for a moment, then flinched slightly, realizing that it was probably expected of her to answer. "Ah. Yes. I would like book, yes." She stepped from one foot to another. It still felt odd to be greeted like a person. "I am castle physician, pleased to be meeting you. Trust you in good health, since I have not been seeing you in Infirmary, yes?" She smiled a close-mouthed smile and started walking closer. "Or, you're not one to be trusting of doctors."

He stood up casually, placing the book down where he had been sitting in the same movement.
She was looking for a book- or rather she would like a book. Any particular book? Particular subject? Or just any book? Any book would be easy, and rather dull. He hoped she wanted something a bit harder to find. The longer she wasn't satisfied the longer he wasn't lacking entertainment.

The castle physician huh, the new one anyway... in good health? Himself? Depended on your definition of health.
"Well, the state of my being is up for some debate- especially recently," he mused with a slightly raised brow. "How exactly do you rate health among the undead?" He shrugged. "But no, no I have no particular reason to distrust doctors." No more than he had to distrust anyone else anyway.

Her smile widened. Well, that did explain it... partly, at least. As she walked, her wings, bundled up on her back like a mass of fur, shifted slightly and flicked once as if tired of being idle.

"Well-being can be judged on anything, be it live or not." She hummed, her gaze wandering over his form. "You're not rotter or chipped skeleton, yes? That is good."

Stopping a few steps in front of him, close enough for conversation but far enough to not have to tilt her head back too much to see his face, Sheloe stood up on two legs. "Is your ailment anything I could be of aid with, perhaps?"

Interesting sentiment- so at least to a doctor being dead was no excuse for going to work feeling sick or ignoring your symptoms, not that he felt particularly sick himself. It was an amusing thought though, to say the least of it. That in itself made the monkey-creature seem more interesting as well.

And he regarded her as such- with interested. Contemplating his answer for a moment before giving it.
"I suppose you're right on that front- I do seem to be holding together pretty well..." he hummed thoughtfully however at her second question. The one she actually seemed to want an answer to. Was he even unwell? Was boredom an illness? He felt as fine as he ever did. As fine as he could be cooped up in a castle with no ones life to play with. "As for my ailment, it is merely the side effects of an uneventful existence and a minor case of disinterest that I have been suffering from recently. Perhaps it is that my health is just a little too good- and there is nothing to distract me from the mundane nature of my daily schedule."

He shrugged. Normally he wouldn't be so honest about what he was actually feeling- but he didn't see the harm in telling the doctor he was bored. Especially considering he'd already regretfully confided his struggles against his own nature to what had once been the school councilor. What did he really care if everyone knew what he really was anyway? He wasn't exactly enjoying their ignorance. At least a little bit of conflict could be fun for a while.

Sheloe listened rather intently, eyebrows rising slowly as he went on. She smiled, dryly amused, standing up straighter in a jokingly self-important pose. "My wide medical knowledge allows me to diagnosis with certain clarity, based on your excellent self-knowing report, and scan of the environment you're in." She gestured around the dusty library, as if to demonstrate, then cleared her throat. "My friend, I'm afraid to say you're bored. Outside of you fine, but soul rotting from lack of stimuli." She tapped her chin. "Cure is entertainment. But I am no entertainer, so cure come from me not." She bowed her head. "Perhaps just brief relief..."

He couldn't help but chuckle at her 'diagnosis.' At least he had found someone else who enjoyed a little humour. She was right- he was bored. More than just bored- he was dangerously bored. The worst kind- or best, depending on who you asked.

He smiled a bit wider- and perhaps a little bit more genuinely. Was she offering then?
"Brief relief would be... very much welcome." he shrugged at her modest description of how helpful her company might be. "I'm in no position to be fussy about a cure- I'm on the very brink over here..."

"So, the school doctor then?" he hummed as though deliberating the concept. "How long have you filled that position now? I don't believe we've met before." He hadn't spent all too much time in the infirmary recently- which was a nice improvement really. However he hadn't quite noticed her turn up, and he liked to be in the know about things- he didn't have much else to pay attention to these days. Not lately.

She smiled at his chuckle, then dropped to all fours to approach closer. The plan had been to grab some books and go back to the infirmary, but Sheloe was not one to refuse sudden changes in the flow of events. It was rare that they happened for no reason.

With a light bounce, she got up on a chair next to the one Shae used to occupy and turned around to settle down comfortably. "Since May, I think," she said, glancing away in thought. "Yes. I am being rather hiding, so not surprise we have not met." She gave him a guilty look. "Well, not hiding, as such, as that says intent to not be found. I just stay at doctor's post." She paused a beat. "So what is it you do?"

Shae raised a brow slightly. Hiding... no not hiding- simply not making her presence known. he supposed it made sense that she would stay at her post as the doctor. Perhaps then he should be glad not to have met her yet. I wasn't a fan of being sent to the infirmary. He didn't need it.

"That would explain it then- I've not been in such a way that I need medical help for some time..." He never did- but at least he hadn't by anyone else's standards for a while either. Thank the devil for that. However as he spoke he seemed rather indifferent to this fact, he didn't seem particularly happy or proud of himself, nor did he sound disappointed. "Myself I help out here in the library, sorting books and the like..." Not that the librarian didn't almost always do everything over anyway no matter how well he himself had completed the task.
