Face your destiny

Aliyra paused where the forest met the beach and looked back out across the sea. Henry's boat was already fading into the gentle fog. She felt a sharp pang of loss intermingling with fear. She'd found his silence to be comforting, since she herself spoke little unless spoken to. Just being around someone was good enough company for her in a new place. Now she was alone...being alone was always unpleasant.

A worn black backpack and a katana across her back seemed to be the only things with her. She set it on the ground and tugged a cloak out; a dark black and green mottled one that could be mistaken for a shadow if there was no wind to make it ripple. She closed her backpack. After removing the katana from her back, she tied it's belt around the bag.

Tying the cape's strings tight and pulling the hood up on the chance that it could rain, she picked her backpack up and slung it over her left shoulder, letting her cape cover the rest of her completely. She drew an Mp3 player from her pocket and tucked the earbuds into her ears. When she turned it on, she fiddled with the buttons until gentle music ( [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] ) flowed over her; surrounding and soothing her.

She took solace in the fading light as well as in the familliar cape she'd sewn herself this combined with the gentle music gave her the strength to turn from the ocean and face her destiny. With one last glimpse at the fog and the ocean, she started walking; uncertainty would be no master over her.

Shae was wandering the island.
He was used to wandering so it felt nice just to slip unnoticed through the trees.
As he walked soundlessly he noticed a figure traveling up the path. A newcomer? he wondered with interest.. he had walked pretty far after all.
Grinning slightly he continued to watch her for some time- following her out of sight.
As he did so however, after sometime the ghost light which always followed HIM began to reappear.
Annoyed he tried to keep suppressing it but it became to much.
The eerie blue-green orb danced around him as though it had a life of it's own- knowing it was no good to keep hiding he kept walking- waiting to see what she would do.

Aliyra strolled along, mainly watching the dirt before her feet but occasionally glancing ahead. So focused was she on walking and listening to her music that she didn't even realize she was being followed.

Because her shoe had come untied, she paused and settled down on one knee, dropping her backpack. After tying her shoe, she turned to pick up her bag and caught a glimpse of the light from the corner of her eye. Lurching to her feet, she whirled to face the strange light; backpack grasped tightly with one hand and the other on the blade strapped tightly to it.

As she saw the stranger, she forced herself to release the hilt of the katana to take her ear-buds out. "Uh....hi." She said; embaressed at being caught off guard. She smiled at the black-haired guy with a light dancing hovering around him.

"hey" he replied smiling slightly. "sorry if I startled you..."
in actual fact he wasn't sorry one bit, but he certainly looked sincere.
he walked forward, so he was only a few meters away.
"are you headed to the academy?" he asked innocently.. his ghost light flitting back and forth.

Aliyra inclined her head slightly to aknowledge his apology. She wasn't quite sure what to make of this guy, so she just stood there and watched him as one would look at a puzzle as he and his glowing orb approached.

"are you headed to the academy?" he asked.

"Yes, I am...are you?" She replied politely as she looped her backpack over her shoulder.

"Well I just came from there.. but I was about to head back... care to join me?" he asked smiling slightly wider.
He walked closer so he was just a metre away.
His ghost light flickered off for a few seconds making his eyes glow blue.. but it didn't disappear for long.

Ali shrugged her unemcumbered shoulder lightly. "We are heading the same direction." She blinked as the orb disappeared, but shook her head as if discarding a thought.

The road ahead of her now felt less ominous. "So...what is it like; the Academy?" She asked curiously as she began walking.

"it's.... nice I guess" Shae replied thoughtfully.. "People there are nice..."
He followed along beside her.. his ghost light reappearing and circling Aliyra almost playfully.

He scolded it mentally.. stupid light.. he wished he could just keep it away for good.

"it's.... nice I guess people there are nice..."

Ali nodded, mulling this new information over. She smiled tentatively at the light that was circling her.

"My name is Aliyra, by the way. Whats yours?"

(( Short post = writers block....I got a new puppy and his cute-ness is distracting xD ))

"I'm Shae....." he smiled, ignoring the light as it flitted between them. "that's my er... well i call it a ghost light... I don't really remember where it came from.. and it certainly has a mind of its own most of the time." he added resisting the temptation to glare at the little orb that was now circling her legs.

(( That makes sense...you do have to wait for the other person to respond xD ))

"It's nice to meet you Shae," Aliyra said sincerely as she glanced towards him and smiled.

She turned her gaze to the dancing light that circled her legs. "I've never heard of a ghost light before," Curiously, she studies it.

Suddenly she laughs. "Come to think of it, I hadn't really known there were others out there like me." She smiles, "It's nice, knowing I'm not alone anymore." After a second she seems embarassed; as if not used to talking this much.

((So, I just realized a new trait in my character. She's normally quiet, but she has a tenancy to babble when she is nervous/anxious/excited/relieved xD All of which she is right now xD ))

Shae smiled charmingly, "Yes it really is a pleasure" he returned the phrase with genuine sounding sincerity...
"Really the lights a bother most of a the time" he shrugged. "It certainly makes hide and seek difficult." he added the last bit with sarcastic humour.

((lolol yeah.. sorry i'm delayed- so busy lately.. OCT was really hard to complete on time lol...))

(( Yeah, lol. I finished my OCT comic minutes before the deadline xD And it's okay, it's been pretty busy here too, lol. ))

"Yes it really is a pleasure."

She smiles.

Really the lights a bother most of the time, It certainly makes hide and seek difficult."

Aliyra laughs, "I suppose it would be difficult to play hide-and-go seek with it...." She stops walking and looks thoughtfully at it. "I wonder...." She looks at you. "Is it solid; or, I mean; can a person touch it?"

(random jump in! weeeeeee...*ahem*)

suddenly, a small, pale figure comes up the path, with short, soft blue hair, blue eyes, and intricate snowflake and water drop tattoos. but the thing that stood out about her most, were her large, white wings--fully extended as if to catch the suns rays. she stops suddenly, looking ahead of her in shock.

'A-aliyra...umm", she glanced down, looking nervous, then catches sight of Shae. "oh, sorry---am i interrupted something?" her wings are still fully stretched, almost as though she forgot about them. the look almost shocked, themselves.

still paying no mind to her wings, Yuuki silently cursed herself for being so foolish--why hadn't she just kept walking in silence, or even turned invisible to avoid being noticed?

((This is random; still walking up the path and already having participated in the tournament. xD ))

Aliyra inclines her head politely in greeting. "Hi Yuuki." She offers a tentative smile; unsure of her previous opponents intentions.

She seems embarassed at the implications as she says "No, you're not interrupting anything...."

"No nothing at all" Shae added, smiling as he viewed the new corner from the corner of his eye, she had pretty hair...
"We were just enjoying company on the walk back."


He paused then added. "Oh and in answering your question" he turned to Aliyra "It's mostly light I think.. but it does have a bit of density around it's center.."
He only knew this because he'd had people randomly grab at it in the past.. and they had managed to touch something whatever that may be.


(lol this just got interesting.. and a bit odd XD)

Yuuki blinked, and looked back at the boy again. were they referring to the odd orb that bobbed around Aliyra? she frowned slightly, then caught sight of something out of the corner of her eye--her wings were still out!. "oh!" she yelped, surprised. she pulled them in closer to her body, but didn't revert to her more human form....her tattoos just refused to dissapear. instead, they contented themselves with shifting around her face a bit. oh, great, she thought to herself. this had to happen now? She glanced back at the boy....there was something kind of odd about him, but she couldn't quite put her finger on it. in any case, chances were that she would see him again. she figured now would be a good time to at least attempt socialize with him.

she fiddled with a dragon pendant around her neck, before looking at Shae with a slight smile and saying, "i....i'm Yuuki, by the way....sorry about the rough introduction."


(XD no one was replying to my post upon starting up the dirt road, so i thought i'd jump into a thread that was already started)

Larita was furious. That stupid ferry-man had just thrown her brand new Louis Vuitton suitcase in the sand and abandoned her on the shore. This was supposed to be a school for people with special abilities! Doesn't that mean that they should be treated, well, special? And now what was she supposed to do? Carry her own bags? Ick. Once she made it to the castle, someone was going to get an earful, she was sure of that. Didn't they know who her father was around here?

So there she was, her dufflebag over one shoulder and a matching suitcase dragging behind her, it's wheels getting stuck on every pebble. With each step, Larita's 3 inch heels sunk into the soft dirt. She hung her head, pullingAnd that's how she was when she came upon the small group chatting in the middle of the road. As soon as she saw them, Larita let out a relieved gasp and dropped her bags. She walked towards the other students with small, quick steps, carefully trying to keep her heels above ground.

"Oh, thank god," she exclaimed as she got closer. There were three of them, two girls and what appeared to be a tall boy. Larita paid no attention to what they were doing nor made any apology for interrupting. Instead, she turned her full attention on the boy. "Thank god you're here! I couldn't have dragged those bags another inch on my own! Would you go grab them?" As she spoke, she pulled a rather large pair of sunglasses off her face, revealing a set of bright hazel eyes that were a deep brown at the center. She waited expectantly for him to retrieve her bags and carry them the rest of the way to the castle. After all, why wouldn't he?

(hehe...this thread is picking up speed. ironically, someone responded to my other post too, just today. i'm in a few places right now actually... ^.^)

surprised, Yuuki turned to see a tall, slim, brown haired girl. of course, part of her height was due to her ridiculous high heels. usually, Yuuki was a very nice, sweet person, but something about this girl put her on edge. how did you even expect to make it all the way down the dirt road in those shoes anyway, with or without those bags, she though. then, almost instantly, she felt bad for having even thought something so cold. still, she kept quiet, moving her left wing slightly across her body, reminiscent of how someone would cross their arms to the point of hugging themselves when they feel uncomfortable with a situation. it was bent, with the last joint (like an elbow--her wings are like a bird's by the way) near the side of her neck, and the tips of her feathers slightly draped across her left side. the other wing remained in its relaxed state---folded, but with the last section of her wing sticking out a bit, and the joint before that just a little bit more relaxed than if her wing had been completely folded

Yuuki pulled in her wings, seeming suprised at something.

"Oh, sorry, was lost in though for a moment," Ali nodded at Shae answered her question. "I have an...ability that is quite helpful in hide-and seek....I can extend it to anything I touch." She flicked her gaze at Yuuki and smiled, as if sharing a secret.

She was suddenly distracted by a voice exclaiming "Oh thank god!" She turned to face the way that she'd come and saw the tall brunette. Aliyra shook her bangs out of her face and re-adjusted the strap of her backpack.

Aliyra found herself growing somewhat tense as the girl approached. "Thank god you're here! I couldn't have dragged those bags another inch on my own! Would you go grab them?" She seemed to have directed her comment at Shae, but Aliyra spoke to her; feeling strangely defensive of the silent Yuuki.

"It's quite rude to ask a stranger to carry your bags." A displeasant feeling made her gut instincts feel weird, but Aliyra kept her face expressionless.

Shae was about to introduce himself to Yuuki when another figure approached.
The new girl looked tell- but he didn't miss the ridiculous heels. He also didn't miss her expectant attitude.

He had to admit, it was kind of annoying... the way she spoke to him was brattish and not something he was used to- but it still interested him.
He had to stop himself from smirking.. this could get fun.
But no matter what he thought- there was no way she was going to push him around.. that was his job.

"It's fine Aliyra.." he shrugged smiling, "This esteemed young lady must be dreadfully tired..."
He spoke with a sympathetic tone, but made no move to pick up her luggage.

Larita raised her eyebrows after the boy spoke. He must not have heard her request. "Yes, exactly. I thought there would at least be a carriage or something to bring me and my things to the castle, but that stupid boat man just left me there! Now you can see why I'm so glad to run into you!" She giggled and placed a hand on the boy's shoulder, then turned her head to look at the red-head that had spoken so rudely to her. "See, he doesn't mind. No need to get all huffy," she said, looking the girl up and down critically. She was pretty, but no competition here, surely.

She completely ignored the pale girl who hadn't even said anything and turned back to the boy. "Well, then. You look strong enough. I'm sure you could get those bags back to the castle just like that," she said, snapping her fingers and smiling.

Yuuki stiffened slightly, feeling rather like a wooden board as the girl stood with her back to her. in a slight attempt to blow of some steam, she gave a quiet, huff of breath to blow her bangs out of her face. this was getting rediculous. this newcomer was practically hanging off of Shae like a coat. unfortunately, what Yuuki failed to realize was, during her increasing agitation not only had the cobalt blue and white streaks in her hair become increasingly visible, but her body temperature had also dropped considerably. she usually stayed the same temperature as the air around her, which made her even less noticeable. by now, her body temperature was at about 40 degrees Fahrenheit. when she exhaled, she let out colder air, which displaced the warmer air around her, creating a quick burt of wind that gave the illusion of quite a blustery day, if only for a second.

the girl's suitcases, already precariously leaning on each other, began to wobble a bit, then one lost its balance completely, and bumped into the others, creating a domino effect that wasn't very loud---just some odd thumping sounds.
oops, yuuki thought to herself. i hope nothing fragile was in those suitcases... she glanced back at the girl to see if she had noticed. strangely, she seemed to be having trouble controlling a slight twitching of her lips that seemed determined to make itself known.

When Shae commented that it was fine, Aliyra raised an eyebrow but would have been content to let the matter drop. When the brunette made the comment about Aliyra "geting all huffy" both eyebrows raised and she seemed irritated at the girl's tone.

The feeling in her gut, she realized, was dislike. This girl before her clearly had plenty of money and had no qualms about flaunting it. For Aliyra, who grew up with very little; she felt like this girls opposite. She resisted the urge to either cross her arms or just keep walking. Instead, she balled her fist and rested it on a hip.

A cool breeze managed to topple Larita's suitcase, and Aliyra smirked, her eyes dangerous; as if daring this pampered and petty brat to accuse her of doing it.

(( It's nice having my character be mean in the nicest way possible ))

"I'm sure it wouldn't be too hard" he grinned.. "But you know what Might make things easier for all of us?" he smiled, as though he was offering up a fancy solution involving magic or something similar.

He could tell the other two girls weren't pleased with this new "princess" and he was interested to see how it would turn out.
