A bath is needed

Abenzu left the feild where it's history lesson had been held. It ventured into the woods once it had finished the task at hand. The dirt that covered it's once clean body. 'River. Is river here?' It looked around, prancing through the woods. It looked to it's left, to it's right, even above but couldn't see a river yet. It was so busy looking around it tripped over a root. Abenzu blinked letting out a confused squeek. Unfortunately, the ground sloped just beyond the root and Abenzu found itself swiftly rolling downhill and through a bush.

Abenzu's voice echoed with a vibrato for the ground wasn't the smoothest. It finally came to a stop with a leafy crash when Abenzu collided with a bush. Abenzu seemed to be swallowed by the bush and when it's head re-emerged, it no longer was covered in dirt and mud but with leaves and twigs as well. Abenzu flailed letting out a frustrated noise. "JHAMU~!"

Callan was very much enjoying her day. It was the first time since she arrived at the school that she had visited a large pool of water, let alone a river, so she was excited when she set out earlier that morning. Sure, she got lost multiple times but she finally made it to the river.
Her bag of clothing was rested next to one of the many trees not far away, inside were her day clothes, but since she could not wear them swimming she had changed into just a plain flowing bra-like top before dunking herself into the water fully.

When rising from the cold water her white dripping wet hair stuck to her now slightly grey hardened skin and every now and again behind her, you can see a large shiny dark blue scaled tail with white fins flapping about. You would probably call a being such as herself a mermaid, but it would not go down nicely with the shy girl, she would never call herself a mermaid.

She was floating on her stomach with her head resting on the bank, and her pale blue eyes closed with a relaxed expression on her face when her heard the yell of frustration coming from somewhere on the forest a few bushes up from where she was. Startled she ducked down further into the water hiding most of herself and her tail, with only her eyes and fluffy ears showing, she called back.

"H-hello? Is a-anyone there?!"

Abenzu got out of the bush. It stepped gingerly checking for an sign of a possible broken, sprained, or twistedness, no problems showing up at the time. Abenzu looked around, keeping quiet, hoping to here the sound of a river, any river. The faint sound of water finally reached it's ears, the look on it's face going from frustrated to elated. "Jhamu~" Abenzu turned in the direction of the sound, when it's ears perked to another coming from the same direction. A voice, and one Abenzu didn't know yet, or did it... Even so, company was company, and Abenzu loved company.

Abenzu trotted on fours in the direction of the water. It looked to the trees...it would be faster to hop from branch to branch... Abenzu pounced at a tree, clinging to the trunk and climbing up. Once it got to one of the lower branches, it hopped to the next and so on. Not long, Abenzu saw glimpses of a river and it hopped the last few branches. One more branch and it would reach the clearing to the river. As it hopped, Abenzu slipped and was hurled towards the ground, going just below the branch it had been targeting. As a reflex, it's tail lashed out hooking the branch. Abenzu's fall jerked to a stop and it just hung on the branch. It twisted itself to face the river where it spotted what most likely was the owner of the voice. It waved, "Kheto~"

Callan jumped again as a small strange creature came into view though the trees. It stopped suddenly and hung from a nearby branch as she slunk down more into the water, trying to hide herself from view.

O-oh my, i d-didn't think any one e-else would be here!

She watched the creature carefully, just in case it was hostile and wanted to attack her like the many sharks she had encountered on her travels had wanted to. If she watched carefully she may be able to react faster once it had begun the attack. But she was not prepared for the sudden wave or the greeting that came from the creatures mouth.

"EEK!" She squeaked in surprise, head head shooting down further into the water, only the top of her pale blue eyes visible. Instead of realising that the creature's vocals where on a slightly different frequency than other humans and had only said Hello, she started to panic.

(Is his language considered human? Callan can change and understand different frequencies of vocals which enables her to understand what people are saying. To bad it doesn't help with reading hehehe.)

Abenzu looked hurt. There had been quite a few surprised looks from people Abenzu had just met but never fear. Abenzu dropped down to the ground and cautiously crawled towards the river. Maybe the girl wouldn't fear it if it tried to speak English. "E....ehlloh. Mah naym Abenzu. Wha yur naym?"

Abenzu sat on the bank of the river and looked down at the girl. It's eyes were wide with curiosity. It hoped she wouldn't fear it anymore, never being feared before. It slowly wagged it's tail, actually resembling a puppy wanting to play. It saw it's reflection out of the corner of it's eyes. Oh yeah, it needed a bath. Maybe that's why se feared it, it wasn't as colorful as it had been. Abenzu crawled to the side so it could get a nice spot, and began to splash water on it's face. Hoping to get the dirt, twigs, and leaves off.

Callan calmed down slightly as she heard the creature in front of her speak English, or what sounded like English.

Watching the creature crawl over and start to wash his face in the water, she raised her head from the water, head tilted as she watched it with curiosity.

I-t won't eat me? N-no, it seems nice. Maybe he c-can be my friend too?

Callan bit her lip nervously, she had calmed down quite a bit, maybe from the curiosity of there being a 'land-being' she did not know about, or maybe it was the fact that now she had a better look at him he seemed friendly and quite cute, sort of like a large teddy bear. She gathered up the courage and opened her pale lips to reply.

"M-my name's C-callan. It i-is nice to m-meet you mister... um... A-ananzu."

She smiled lightly, hoping the creature really was nice.

Abenzu allowed the water to settle and stared at it's reflection again. A frown appeared on it's face as it saw that the dirt one it's face smudged and streaked rather than washed away. It remembered how it's parents always washed it and the last time it had anything close to a bath was at the beach party a couple months ago. It didn't bother much because gnomes didn't need to worry about being grimy as quick as humans, but since the last history assignment, a bath was needed. Sadly, Abenzu hardly knew how to clean itself.

Abenzu's gaze went back to the girl as she spoke. It was about to ask about the 'mister' but stopped when she mispronounced it's name. It gigged slightly and spoke with a helpful tone, "Naht Ananzu, A.Ben.Zu." It spoke each syllable carefully so that she could hear them better. "...Waht ihs 'mihstaa'?"
