Paranoid Monkey

Abenzu happily made it's move into it's new room. It quickly chose a bed, and made a little out of the sheets and pillows. It then put it's special bag of stuff in one drawer of the dresser before clmbing onto the and curling up in it's little nest. Now it just sat and stared at the door waiting for what it believed would be the evil spider that kept trying to steal it's coins. It sat there watching until it dozed off due to the comfyness of the little nest.

Deneli carried several bags with her as she walked down the halls, totes filled with the things that, up until now, she'd kept underwater in the little nook she'd claimed for herself to sleep in. But she had a room now! Now she could be like everyone else and sleep on land.

She hoped her new roommate wouldn't mind the fact that her bags were still dripping water slightly, and that her own hair was still damp from the trip. She was just happy she'd been able to carry everything comfortably in one trip. She stopped when she reached the door to her new room though. With a bag in each hand and then a third held in her arms, she had no free hand to open it with.

She turned slightly sideways and managed an awkward and light knock on the door with her knuckles. Hopefully her roommate was there to open it for her.

Abenzu had still been napping, actually having moved around enough that it was hanging half off the bed. It was always a light sleeper, thanks to it's last roommate and at the sound of knocking, wooke immediately and fell completely off the bed with a thump. It squirmed around, as it was still semi-wrapped in it's blankets, then gave up and just dragged itself to the door. As it dragged and wormed it's way to the door, the blanket came loose and the gnome hopped up and opened the door, "Hehlo?" It stood there a moment, dumbstruck, "Aaaaah, Dehniiii!?"

Deneli adjusted the way the way she held the third bag so she could better see the person she would be sharing a room with for the coming semester. She didn't need to be able to see to recognize Benny's voice though.

"Benny!!" Deneli was equal parts surprised and excited. She hadn't even realized until now that she'd been nervous, but now she was only relieved. She was roomed with her best friend! She wanted to hug the hat gnome, but that was impossible with all the things she was carrying. She even thought about dropping them altogether to get it done, but held back the urge.

She giggled. "We're roommates??" She wanted to say something else, but it only came out as an unintelligible sound of excitement. "Let me put this stuff down real quick."

Abenzu hopped around excitedly, chanting Deneli's name, nickname if you want specific. The little gnome was so excited, it tripped over it's own tail. "Dehni ihs ruumayt~ Noh moah spahdah paason~" It giggled before getting up and going back up to Deneli, holding it's hands up to her, "Abenzu hehp?" OuO It'd help Deneli any day.

The more excited Benny got, the more it rubbed off onto Deneli. The next ten minutes promised to be very hyper.

She nodded at Benny's offer to help and lean slightly so it could take the bag in her arms. "Thanks Benny~" She then made her way into the room and set her own two bags on the floor off to one wall. She turned back to Benny with a wide grin on her face and giggled. Much as it had improved, she couldn't deny that Benny was still hard to understand at times. "Who's Spadda person?"

Abenzu spent at least two minutes trying to get a good hold of the bag before walking over to where Deneli put her bags. It carefully set the bag down, in case delicate stuff was in it then turned to Deneli. "Saphdah paason ihs miin ahn haz rehd hehr. Ahmbohs ihs naym." It pouted a little before smiling happily. "Baht spahdah paason ruumayt noh moah. Ruumayt ihs yu~" At that, the little gnome hopped over to her and gave her a tight hug, "Abenzu vehrii hapii~"

"Ambrose?" Deneli was surprised at first, but then she remembered when Ambrose had been mean to Benny. "Oh yeah! Oh so he was your roommate? Yeah, he's confusing. He's mean a lot, but he can be nice sometimes too. He still never apologized to either of us! Did he ever give you that coin back?"

Deneli giggled and happily returned Benny's hug. "It's so exciting~. I couldn't have asked for a better roommate!"

"Ahmbohs nevah gaht Abenzu's coyn. Abenzu noh leht Ahmbohs." Abenzu huffed defiantly, rather proud that it had kept it's coins safe. In the hug, Abenzu nodded quickly, "Dehnii behs ruumayt evah~ Nais, prehtii, ahn wohn stiil Abenzu's coynz." It's tail was wagging somewhat.

"Oh. Good!" She giggled. "You shouldn't let people be mean to you, but you can't be mean to other people either. Not even if they're really mean to you. You're always supposed to give people a chance to be nice!"

Deneli pulled away from the hat gnome and began rummaging through her bags. The first thing she took out was a blanket large enough to fit the bed on her side of the room and made of a waterproof material that wasn't native to the land. She promptly laid this overtop the bed and returned to her bags. Next she pulled out several piles of folded clothes and laid these next to eachother on the bed. This emptied the first bag except for one thing, which she pulled last. It was a smaller bag which would certainly look familiar to Abenzu. She held it out proudly towards it. "Remember this??"

It was the gift Abenzu had gotten for her last Christmas. The little doll with the cute clothes~ She'd always loved keepsakes like these.

Abenzu pouted before nodding, "Oh kei. Abenzu bii nais to spahdah paason....Iivehn ihf Abenzu noh laik." It went to it's bed and sat in the little nest it had made, watching Deneli unpack. When she pulled the last item from the bag it pointed, eyes wide with recognition, "Ooooooooh, Abenzu knoh!"

Abenzu flailed a little from it's perch before hopping off it's bed and opening the drawer of the dresser to rummage through it's own bag. A moment later, Abenzu got the hat out and carefully plopped it onto it's head. "Dehnii hat~" It had been keeping it's hat safe in it's bag so that it wouldn't get torn or anything, so it was in perfect condition.

Deneli nodded. "You can't expect people to be nice to you if you aren't nice to them either." She wasn't accusing Benny of ever being mean, just quoting her uncle again. He was always right. Plus, she did have some faith that Ambrose would inevitably choose to be nice over being mean. It was almost a denial of the nature she didn't understand.

"Yay, you kept it too~" She giggled, though of course expected Benny to get rid of the hat. Benny loved hats. And rainbows. The old costume piece had been the perfect gift for it. She removed the doll from its bag and sat it down on the dresser in the room, placing the bag in the first drawer of the dresser. She had named her Allie. She had always thought that was a cute name. Allie of Lillegard Castle~ That was one she hadn't heard before.

The second bag contained more clothes and fabrics, some of which seemed entirely out of the ordinary and out of place. At the bottom of this one were two boxes. One contained several sewing supplies (and had given her severe difficulty the past few months since most of it was land-based and she'd had nowhere else to store it). She hoped Abenzu wouldn't go looking through them. Not that she would particularly mind, but she wouldn't want it to prick its fingers on one of the needles. The other box held her jewelry, several necklaces and pairs of earrings, and an abundance of bracelets. These were both placed on the dresser on either side of Allie.

Abenzu nodded again, to both comments. It smiled more to the second comment. "Abenzu luhv hat. Ihs prehtii an' ihs gihff frahm yu." It giggled childishly, going over to the girl and giving her a hug.

The gnome returned to watching her unpack and at the boxes, became curious. "Dehnii?...Can Abenzu lurn what ihn bakses?"

Deneli laughed. "That was from a costume I wore last year. We have a holiday kind of like Halloween where we dress up. Emphadon's Day~ I was a rainbow trout that year, but a cute one! You can't actually see all the different colors on most rainbow trouts, but I wanted to be a rainbow~"

At Benny's question of the boxes, she glanced back in their direction. "Oh, one of them is for my jewelry and the other one has some of my sewing stuff in it so I can make my clothes pretty."

The last bag wasn't quite so full as the others and was simply moved to a spot between her bed and nightstand. Inside it were the multitude of "keepsakes" she'd collected. Shells, starfish, baubles, beads and ornaments. These would no doubt find themselves placed onto walls, sewn into curtains, and added to the general decor of the room by week's end.

Abenzu smiled sweetly, "Abenzu kiip fohevahs, kiip iht sayf." It hopped off the bed and carefully returned the hat to it's bag. Abenzu looked at the bag a moment before pulling it out. "Dehni wan knoh Abenzuz stahf?" It was more saying, since you told me about your stuff I'll tell you about mine. It yet again hopped onto it's bed, setting the bag in it's lap.
