Zin had used the keys Shae had wished into existence to gain entry to Rendaz's office.  He'd marched straight up to the desk, about to throw the papers everywhere, but paused.  For a terrible moment, the clumps of paper and scribbled notes reminded him of the state of his father's office.  In a moment of homesickness, he decided to leave the desk, as well as the book cases, alone.  He wanted trouble, not cruelty.

The door, however, was fair game...so Zin made that the key to his pandora's box. He'd found a beautiful powder mixture called artifical flavoring in the town shops...and it turned water interesting colors.  Kool-aid.  After filling a garbage bag with water, he'd dumped as much of the packaged dust as he could into the mixture, tied it off, and rigged it to the door so it would drop on the poor victim opon opening the door.  Following the kool-aid was a mixture of fake snow and sparkles.  Then Zin had proceeded to toss tinsel everywhere, using cotton balls to make snow on the ground, even taking the time to construct mini-snow men out of bouncy balls.  He'd left those all over the floor. Paper snow flakes hung from the ceiling.  Stockings hung from the desk, carefully put up so not to wreck the stacks of paper.  He'd even found a fake Christmas tree to shove in the corner.

Once he was close to finishing, he was in a considerably lighter mood.  In a strange urge to be considerate, he'd cleaned all the stained coffee cups and organized the piles of papers with new paperweights.  Then he stuck a giant stuffed Santa sat in Rendaz's chair.  And on the desk, he'd left an ornate fairy watch.

Thought you might like to take a look at the mechanics of this since I hear you like mechanical stuff.  Careful when opening it.  You might be surprised what we use to keep them running for so long!

Zin stared at his work, wondering if he should be proud or confused at how...festive, it had turned out.  Sometimes he even managed to surprise himself with how pranks turned out.

A red eye glowered in the far corner. A box-like mechanical creature clung to the ceiling with four spider-like metallic limbs, hidden by the bookcase that it resided above. As the figure entered the room, it twitched, its camera zooming in on the unfamiliar, and notably unRendaz-like stranger.

It remained silent as the boy did his work, adorning his room with gnarly decorations, though it couldn't stop itself from giving the occasional twitch. Tinsel. Snow. Santa. Rigged door. Its prying gaze swept over all of these, before focusing upon the boy again.

Rendaz would have been a fool to leave his office unguarded.
That was why he didn't.

The red light of its eye intensified, and it leapt off the bookcase with surprising force, landing on the floor with a 'clunk'. From there, it launched itself towarda the godfairy, aiming to coil all four of its limbs around his torso to incapacitate him.

The godfairy admired his handiwork for a lingering moment, unaware he was being watched. It probably should have occurred to Zin that, at some point, something would respond to his antics as a threat. He'd gone so long in the castle without any kind of response, though, he had grown careless, and did not expect Rendaz's room to be any better protected than by a simple lock. A rookie mistake he was about to pay for.

However, this was far from his first time being ambushed. The clunk was his first warning, and by then he was already whirling around, enough to catch the blur of motion from the corner of his eye. Without another thought he threw himself as hard as he could to the side, rolling once he hit the ground. Instantly his human glamour disappeared, to conserve energy, and to act as a warning to whatever had attacked him.
