Not much else but books.

"mmm... a smiling face...." he didn't look at her, and his voice was again unreadable and almost blank- but he wasn't really smiling anymore... thoughts and wondering of what he was and who he was drifting back into his mind.

"Like i said.. i have no idea what it's from but for as long as i can remember.. it's always been there..."

"As long as you can remember, huh?" She had picked up on that little slip just as easily as she could pick up on her own. "That either means you've had it since you were a child or you have amnesia." She traced the scar once more before dropping her hand back into her lap.

She had many friends in her long life that had amnesia. And she picked up on little slips like that quite easily. For as long as I can remember was a favourite saying for those with amnesia.

But then again, she could be assuming things again.

"no.. really?" he said in a mock surprised tone heavy with sarcasm.. "Amnesia i never even thought of that." he sighed and pulled his jacket back up but left it unzipped.

"Yeah.. I don't remember my past.. or when i started to remember- for all I know I don't HAVE a past but... yeah.. for as long as i can remember."

"Im not gonna follow sympathetic protocol and say I'm sorry, 'cause quite frankly I'm not. and if you're anything like how I have you painted in my head you don't want people to feel sorry for you," Raye informed.

"But..." she added quietly. "Even if I'm not sorry for you, I will try to help if you need it." She rested her hand on his shoulder and gave it a light squeeze.

he grinned.
he had to grin. she was being so serious...
"Don't worry.... hehe- I'm fine.. And besides.. I don't seem to be dying anytime soon so.. I have plenty of time to look..."

She frowned and flicked the tip of his nose. "Done make light of my seriousness, Shae. it dodesn't happen very often."

She grinned and ruffled his hair. "I'm not going any time soon unless Sol corners me, either, so I've got plenty of time to help ya."

his grin faltered.. she was being slightly patronizing.. but whatever he laughed.
"Good.. so can you help me find a book then.. one that starts with 'W'?" he asked cryptically...

"I can try," she replied. "But dont be too surprised if you find me under a heap of books. My clumsiness knows no bounds when I'm not fighting," she warned good-naturedly with a small laugh.

He laughed, clumsy huh?
"that's ok- I'll try not to let them squish you.." he grinned gesturing to the books.

Raye chuckled a little. "I'm pretty sure they have it out for me. I called them boring," I stage whispered with a small grin.
"But I shall trust you, brave saviour, to defend me from the villainous books that would dare to attack me," she said, throwing her arms out dramatically

He laughed and smirked slightly.
"anything to help a damsel in distress" he replied, eyes flashing slightly, his thoughts as ever hard to read.

Raye laughed a little and grinned. "I dont usually like playing damsel in distress. But with my clumsiness, I think I'm going to have to."

She grimaced. "One day I'm going to be able to pull a book off a shelf without the rest of the library falling on top of me. One day," she vowed

"hehe... One day" he agreed grinning and standing up, stretching as he did. "so... Let's see if today I might find something I'm looking for.."

Raye stood as well and stretched languidly, her back cracking loudly. "Ooooh," she moaned, rubbing her back with a frown.

"So, what is it we're looking for?"

He scanned the shelves distractedly.
"a book.. Any book, that might mention Will o whisps." he stated offhandedly, hoping also not hoping she knew what that was.

"Will O' Wisps? What ya wanting to search up on hinkypunks for?" she asked curiously, reverting calling it the most familiar name to her. She had spent quite a few years in South-West England.

"Hinkypunks.. is that what you call them where you're from..?" he asked still offhandedly, walking to the bookshelf and tracing his finger across a line of books, skimming the titles.

"No. Hitodama is the usual name for them in Japan. I spent a lot of time in the South-West of England before I settled in Japan. They called them Hinkypunks there."

Raye began searching the books on another shelf. "You'd probably find some info on them if you looked through an encyclopaedia of mythical creatures or somethin'."

"I've checked.. Nothing much useful, I need to find a book on them alone." he stated firmly, surely- like he was certain this would help. "I wonder if we should look them up under a different name though, once we're done here..." he paused, from the sounds of it his "own kind" was quite a diverse species.. that or they were referring to something totally different to himself.

Raye nodded. "That would be a good idea. Will O' Wisps go by quite a few different names in different countries. The Japanese alone call them by at least five different names."

She pulled a book from the shelf and stared down at the title. Tales of the Lost Little Wisp. "I found a bedtime story about them," she chuckled, waving the small book at him.

he took the book slightly skeptical and skimmed through the pages.
The little wisp wandered the forest blah blah didn't have any friends blah blah blah was lost on his own blah blah one day a child came to play blah got lost blah they found the path together blah blah happily with his new friend blah blah happily ever after..... right, he snorted with laughter.
That was about as far from the truth as him being a fairy princess from a mystical land made of pink bubblegum, where everyone was always happy.

"mmm.. no sorry.. it's about a little ball of light that's all nice and happy and friendly.. and it has a happy ending- so that rules it out." he added dryly.

Raye laughed loudly. "Didn't think a child's picture book would be much help."

She tried to dislodge a thin book from between two thick leather-bound volumes. "But this one might-" The book came free, along with the rest of the shelf. She cringed, waiting for the books to fall atop her frame. How she hated her clumsiness.

On a split second reaction he grabbed her hand and pulled her back just as the books began to fall towards her, pulling her into his chest.

"Really little miss... be more careful.." he raised an eyebrow and smiled slightly.

Raye's nose wrinkled as she glared down at the innocent looking pile of books. "I told you they had it in for me."

A very faint blush dusted her cheeks when she realised she was propped up against Shae's chest. Now, when she was instigator, she could flirt with the best of them. But when things happened out of her control, she became slightly awkward.

"Hehe well.. maybe so, but still.. be careful.." he laughed letting go. He eyed the pile of books, wondering if they should bother putting them back..
